    Great SVS sound

    R.H. · 28 July 2020

These are pure SVS greatness. I have some ultras hooked up to my receiver downstairs so having sound quality on par at my desk is very nice. I’d say the main thing I miss is having a PC USB input since I connect my laptop that way.

Initial impression? Huh? 600 bucks? UPDATED at the end.

    C.S. · 25 March 2019

A couple of reviewers stated that these speakers are "un-remarkable" in whatever way. Well, I totally concur UNLESS burn-in completely transforms these things into...well...$600 speakers. I am not an audiophile but AM quite experienced in sound quality and lack there-of. These lack any kind of presence, especially in the low end (bass) department. My tiny portable Bose speaker puts out more bass and, frankly, sounds better, cleaner, more musical than these SVS speakers. These (very nice looking BTW) little SVS fellas are boring, tinny and unimpressive for this price range. I have some Polks similar sized bookshelf type and they were $200 less which makes up for the bluetooth, wifi and tech built into these and the Polks sound 10 times better. I don't know what this guy (the owner of SVS) is talking about when he pitches this in his youtube video but it's a hell of a sales pitch. As I just mentioned (so not all is bad) these things look and feel absolutely terrific. They have that premium look and feel, undeniably! It's the actual sound that raises questions. To my ears, this "system" does not produce anything that approaches the quality of sound that they claim in their advertising. Now this can be subjective and to their ears it sounds great. I know this but in this case it's MY ears (the buyer) making the call and they don't like what they hear. I usually listen to fairly high end equipment so I am familiar with what, to me, it is "good sound". Most of my serious listening these days is done via headphones because that way I can play it as loud as I want. For that setup I use an Astell & kern SE100 DAC, iFi iCan Pro hybrid headphone amp and usually cap it off with the stellar Senn HD800(s) or Focal Elegias (if I want closed back). Either way the sound just makes me say WOW! Now, that is some real nice sound and the reason I tell you that is only to, in some way, qualify myself to write a review like this and NOT boast. I'm a reasonable man, I don't expect quite that level of fidelity here with this Bluetooth set but my expectations were lifted far above what I hear in this equipment..... You told me (and I paraphrase) I'm supposed to "forget about" what I know about Bluetooth. "These speakers are the ones that eliminate the gap between wired and wireless". Bluetooth wireless audio has always been about the tech and not quality of the sound. We at SVS have changed that". I heard your message and I took the bait. That youtube sales pitch! It got me. Anyhow, the ball is in my court now. Rest assured, I am neither bitter nor angry. It's just life and someone else's opinion, just as this review is mu opinion. My conundrum is to I pack them up and return them? Do I get a sub? I am rather certain that a sub will make these things sound much more musical and better over all. I'm not a bass head but rock music doesn't sound so good if you can barely hear the presence of a bass drum. We need a little thump. Even on this small kit. It needs a little something. What they should do to make this little BT system shine, is, for starters, be clear about this....and/or bundle it with a small, powered (rather inexpensive, NOT cheap) 8" sub OR offer it as an add-on and keep the price similar or just a bit more. I think a 10" or 12" is a bit much. 8" makes sense. Be clear about it. I was made to feel that a subwoofer would help but is NOT necessary. Well, it is necessary (IMO). This is a $75 jabra setup without one. Again, my opinion. I'm sure I'll be hearing from someone after this review. Well...if all ends well, I can and will adjust this review completely. I hear they are wonderful people. We'll see. UPDATE: I've decided to give it a few days and try one of my main system's subs for a day or two to look into this further with some needed low end. I will do my duty as a jerky customer :o (I might sound a little like that but I'm really not)! and report back my findings. UPDATED INFO: I decided just to keep them, mostly because of the hassle involved with returning them. I DID move forward with a sub and I just, for whatever reason, couldn't do an 8" subwoofer so I picked picked up a lightweight 12 sub from good ole Polk and boy, what a relief, it sure took a load off those poor SVS BT speakers who were just trying to do too much. It sounds nice now. A bit boomy if I don't "reel it in" but with a 12" sub on these little guys, I expected that. It sounds real nice now! It sounds like a totally different system Quite the transformation for sure. If go with this system and from I see, not to many people are, the subwoofer should not even be an option. Get one or move on to something else. Get the Aiwa Exos 9 for half the price. It's actually one one of the best audio purchases I have ever made (might very well be the best). The Aiwa Bluetooth offering packs much more punch and, easily sounds better but with the Polk sub, the SVS steals the show. I left the star rating at 3 for a couple of reasons. 1: I shouldn't have to add anything to make a product just work like it should. 2: SVS just doesn't seem to be "on the level" with the "boss" doing a "souped up" video and just over pitching these things. 3: I have not heard a thing from SVS which tells me a couple of things. They don't monitor these reviews and/or they don't care. Both, IMO, are strikes against them. Unless something changes, I will likely not look to SVS for any of my audio needs moving forward.

    Disappointed

    R.W. · 1 February 2019

I read and watched several reviews on these speakers. They sound as good, without a subwoofer, as my Edifier R2000DB but the Edifiers do not have a SW port so I wanted to upgrade. IMHO they screwed the pooch when they decided to not add a remote control for these. I lieu of a remote you need to use an app called DTS Ply-Fi. After an hr on the phone with SVS and two hrs on the apps web page, I still can not connect.Every hour I spend troubleshooting just adds to the cost of this purchase. I thought after seeing the reviews this would be more intuitive, I just don't have time to troubleshoot something that should be simple. I solve problems for a living I DO NOT WANT TO DO IT WITH WHAT LITTLE FREE TIME I HAVE. I gave them a two-star rating because they do sound good but without a remote, they are worthless to me.

    Good Sound, Many Sources

    A.C. · 25 October 2019

Sound is good, given the limited source material I tried. Great value in terms of inputs - plenty to obviate need for a receiver in many cases: plug everything into the primary speaker and go. My primary goal was 2.0 streaming, but the play-fi cloud just isn't up to working with Alexa (consistently or at all sometimes), so I would have to add another source (dot or whatever). At that point, I may as well get similar sound from a pair of near-field monitors, diminishing the value of the electronics in the primary speaker, but again that value depends on how many sources you have
