Description:
The original electronic music trailblazers -The Prodigy- are back with some of their fiercest ever tunes.
‘No Tourists’, has been written, produced and mixed over the last year by Liam Howlett in his studio in London’s Kings Cross. Though this is – Liam notes – “very much a band album”. Maxim and Keef Flint are very much present and correct, each supplying their legendary vocal skills on this, the Essex machine’s seventh studio record. Yes, there are one or two collaborators, but fundamentally this is the sound of the central Prodigy three, bringing their riotous sound to audiences old and new, two decades since they changed the face and sound of electronic music with epochal album ‘The Fat Of The Land’. Expanding on the general shape of the project, Liam says: “this album is equally aggressive as the last records – but in a different way." A musician, songwriter and studio maestro, Howlett is as rigorous and righteously Up For It as he was when he formed his 28-years-young band. He explains that, as ever, the new songs “are built to play live. That’s the one thing that brings everything together. I couldn’t write this music unless it has that outlet on stage. That helps write the music. This is what I do it for: the live thing. And until we feel like we can’t do it, or the buzz goes, we won’t stop."
It’s that sense of do-or-die commitment that is reflected in the album title. “To us, ‘No Tourists’ is ultimately about escapism and the want and need to be derailed. Don’t be a tourist - there is always more danger and excitement to be found if you stray from the set path.”
Reviews:
5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy, angry album with typical Prodigy attitude
I'd heard about the release of this album late last year, but life took over and I forgot about it. Unfortunately, I was only reminded of it again with the sad passing of front man Keith Flint recently which prompted me to order it and await in earnest for it to arrive!I appreciate there are some mixed reviews of the album, and some of the songs are taking a while to grow on me, but I still really love this album. The only volume it can be played at is 'extremely loud' though, just like any other Prodigy album. There are sounds/samples thrown in which have been used in previous albums, and while some people might see this as unoriginal I like the references to older tracks. My favouite tracks are Light Up The Sky, We Live Forever, Fight Fire With Fire, and Boom Boom Tap. It's been in my car every day since it came a week ago and I can't get enough of it.This may/may not be the last Prodigy album. If it is, I wouldn't say it's a bad one to go out on. It's angry, heavy, and got the typical rebellious Prodigy attitude that I've loved since my early teens. I'll be forever grateful to the Prodigy for helping me get through some difficult years in my life.RIP Keith Flint, the original Firestarter. Your passion and energy will be hugely missed.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Boys Still Have It!
I am a fan of the Prodigy and have always loved their 'In Ya Face!', 'Rebellious' raw punchy sound!....and this album has plently of that....almost all the songs have a Techno, Rave quality about them which harks back to their early work in the 90's. If you are looking for a more Mature Philisophical Prodigy sound then this album isn't it...it it quite simplistic but as with all their albums there is that unique explosive/expletive sound that you only get with 'The Prodigy'. I think Liam, Keith and Maxim have done a very good job and this is a far improvement on 'The Day is my Enemy' and on equal par with 'Invaders Must Die'...although all the songs could have done with extending a little. The boys have shown there is still some gas in their tank!...
5.0 out of 5 stars CD.
Arrived very quickly, and in excellent condition.
4.0 out of 5 stars Back to Roots
I think the Prodigy are getting back to roots with this one, it has that edgy feel to it like they are trying to bring back the formula of the Fat Of the Land and Music for the jilted generation (listen to Timebomb Zone - it sounds like their debut stuff). I can only give it 4/5 as nothing beats the Fat of the Land for me. Moreover, I think they have more to give. Meaning I'm sure Liam and the folks are capable of producing another belter of an album; despite that we're all getting older. They are trying hard with this album, but I think they can still do better.Going to be tough going without Keith. I'd like to see the Prodigy continue with producing albums though.... I always liked Juliette Lewis on vocals; maybe Liam could think about collaborating again as she has that rawness I think they need.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Album, if a little shorter than the others
This is one of the best Prodigy Albums - and I’ve already racked up around 100 plays of every track in a few short months (I have it on repeat in the Gum). The album only runs to 30 mins whereas most albums are 45mins or so - but some of these tracks are so good they make it in to my Prodigy top 10 of all time. So sad that the singer / dancer took his life when he clearly had so much going for him - this album really is one of their best. Hopefully the remaining band members will carry on, as I love their music and totally recommend this album.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great album that long term fans will enjoy.
I am a long term fan of the Prodigy. Not in a weird, stalker type way but enough to have the Dirtchamber Sessions and to have bought every album they have released so far.No tourists is an album that will please those who remember Prodigy of old. I was disappointed with the world in my enemy, is was too angry and not 'dance' enough for me, whereas no tourists fixes this imbalance perfectly. No tourists will reward you with some awesome tracks even taking you back to your youth with We Live Forever or back to their Often Outnumbered Never Outgunned album with Need Some1.One of my favourite Prodigy albums to date and totally recommended
5.0 out of 5 stars Great album. Instantly listenable if you like classic rave/dance
This is pretty much prodigy from the early 90s. It's classic prodigy. Someone else gave this album a review and thought prodigy released Ebenezer goode I think that person may have done too many drugs in the early 90. Either that or they aren't so clever. That song was off boss drum by the Shamen. Maybe that's why they were disappointed. This album is like music for the jilted generation and Experience if you are an early prodigy fan you should love this.Don't know what some people expect from artists sometimes. They moan if they change too much then moan if they don't sound exactly the same. The Prodigy are The most consistent Dance act in the country in my opinion.
5.0 out of 5 stars The 7th and sadly, the last album.
I've been listening to the Prodigy since the 90s and although their style has changed many times over the years. They still make great albums. I would put this on par with the last few albums, and it sounds even better in the car when you are driving. RIP Keith Flint — It won't be the same, now you're gone.
A compilation – without being a compilation
It’s a good thing for the genre and the fans that The Prodigy continues to make music. Music that is ever evolving and remaining quite relevant in whatever genre you want to fit them into.“No Tourists” is the latest edition and this time around, The Prodigy chose to revisit all of the styles that have made them what they are and wrap them all into one EP. I’d say they pretty much nailed it. If you have all of their work, which chances are you do, you’ll easily pick up on things they’ve done before and hear them in their 2018 glory. You have to enjoy it……because you always have.Overall, you get what you’d expect – high energy music with good bass tracking and limited lyrics. While only 10 songs and 38 minutes in length, it’s plenty to keep things moving, and if you wish for more, just run it back and start again. An easily repeatable album is a great thing to be these days.I don’t need to go and highlight any particular track because you’re not going to single out one of them and move on. You’ll be listening this in it’s full (short) length. What’s old is new again and that’s a good thing!
