5.0 out of 5 stars Not really intended for musicians
These are vital in data-server and video distribution environments. This lightweight version is ideal for OB vehicles (Outside Broadcast) and ENG vans (Electronic News Gathering). As ever musicians are looking at using these as cable tidies LOLIF YOU WANT to have tidy racks with multiple cables these are invaluable. The neat feature is the ability to fit the end support at 90 degrees to facilitate vertical feeds.I use these to control cable runs around my office although I have repurposed a couple on the back of my office door to hang a collection of USB inter-connects rather than having a rummage box like a snakes-wedding.Great price, great product - highly recommended for those that know.
5.0 out of 5 stars A simple bar but makes your cabinet look so much neater...
This cable management bar comes in a plain cardboard box and inside you’ll find the bar inside a plastic bag.The bar is made from steel and has been painted in matte black. It is reasonably light for a steel bar, but it feels strong and doesn’t flex easily so has adequate strength. There are five plastic hooks attached to it which are quite flexible so can accommodate the thickest of cables or a large amount of them. Each hook can be removed by pushing them upwards and they will come out of their support holes. The are two support holes on each end of the bar that are placed horizontally. These are handy if you need the hook to be sideways at the ends as the hooks are supported by them. Because the hooks are removable, you don’t have to have them all installed, and you can have just the right amount that you need and in the right orientation.I have this in the back of my network cabinet as it won’t go at the front as I can’t close the door due to the length of the hooks. It attaches to the mounts at the rear and keeps all the LAN cables neat and tidy at the back of the case as I have network connections all round the home and they all come back to the network cabinet.A cable tidy is essential if you have a lot of cables going to your network cabinet as they keep them out of view at the back and they’re not just lying about all over the place in the cab. This cable management bar is perfect for keeping the cables tidy and you can rotate two of the hooks to a horizontal orientation if you have cables coming from the bottom or above. The price is competitive and it’s worth it in my opinion as it makes your cab look so much better...
5.0 out of 5 stars It is fine if it is really what you want
First of all you need a rack-mounted patch bay to make use of this item. That pretty well restricts the appeal of this to home musicians/studio owners. Then you have to have a messy patch bay front to benefit from it. Most patch bays are hard wired at the back to the 'default' routing for a studio and patch cables are only used to send signals via lesser used alternative pathways. So in general use, a patch bay may well not have any cables plugged into the front at all. My patch bay at the front is generally very 'clean' with maybe just 4 short patch cables making temporary connections (eg between a guitar and a valve pre-amp). I did originally think though that this item might be useful to retain cables at the rear of the patch bay which for me is really quite messy. But the way this is designed it can only be used (without looking weird at the front) with the cable grips poking out of the front. If that is what you want or need then this is great. It comes with 4 screws to screw it into your rack. Aesthetically it would have been perhaps better to supply black screws rather than silver, but that's no big deal. The retainers at each end can be removed and rotated by 90 degrees which might also come in handy. For me though having these 5 plastic cable retainers poking out of the front of my rack just looks odd and is probably not going to be much use to me after all.
5.0 out of 5 stars great fit, well made, sturdy, with a generous offset to avoid stressing the clips
This cable management bar is really well made, it has a folded metal backplane that's powder coated black, and some plastic jaws that hook into the steel profile to take the load of the cabling. The fixing points are flexible to suit the square and round racks I tried. The jaws are easy to use as there's a fair sized overlap offset to take thicker shielded cables and power cables without stressing the clips. I've actually moved this to the back of my rack now and swapped the included screws for rackstuds which are perfectly compatible and just rack mounting so much more straight foward than nuts.
4.0 out of 5 stars Neat and simple - for the right board
This is very specific to a patch panel environment - where it can be fitted directly - it is not a general cable management bar. Once installed it is easy to guide/add cables to the guide and a fair number of cables can be run through it together. The design allows cables to be slipped into the cable run easily. The individual guides can be removed and additional notches at each end allow the end guides to be rotated 90 degrees - which means cables can be be guided into a different direction (nominally up or down). For neat cable management - but only with specific patch board fitting - excellent.
5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone with a rack should get one of these!
First impressions were good, it arrived in a branded box protected with bubble wrap. It came in prefect condition with no marks and feels well made and sturdy. It fits perfectly in my rack occupying exactly 1U. It’s nice that they’ve supplied 4 screws, personally I choose to use my own as they match the rest of my equipment.I already own a few of these types of units as they work so well, but I much prefer this one as it’s 1U instead of 2, and the plastic cable holders are a better design, it’s much easier to fit cables through and it feels stronger so I suspect it will last longer.Overall I’d highly recommend this to all rack users out there, it’s a great way to protect and mange the large amount of cables you accumulate at the back of a rack.
