5.0 out of 5 stars Works for a complete beginner
I'm really happy with this purchase. I have never played any instrument before and literally can not put it down. I have practiced every day since it arrived, for between 1 and 2 hours, and am really enjoying it. The package contains everything you need to get going, including instructions, tuner, picks, spare strings. I obviously have nothing to compare with ,but the banjo itself seems very solid, looks beautiful and sounds great. It arrived needing the bridge to be installed (intructions for this were OK, but I used You tube as well). Tunining was straightforward using either an app or the tuner provided. I needed to contact the manufactuere about how to use the tuner and it's worh mentioning that customer support has been very good. I recieved an email shortly after purchase to check if I had any queries any not only was my turner query delt with, but I was also given advice about string replacemnets and a slelection of spare metal and plastic picks were posted out.I've been playing it for 3 weeks and it has requierd very little retuning, it seems to remain in tune very well. The only thing I would recommend changing are the plastic finger picks provided, metal ones sound better, are easier to shape and use. The plastic thumb pick provided seems fine though.
4.0 out of 5 stars May need setup help
Bought this for my son. It is a good complete kit which contains most parts you need as a new banjo player - EXCEPT it has no real instructions. On arrival you need to install the bridge saddle and that needs you to loosen the strings. The strings were very poorly wound onto the tuning pegs and we ended up having to restring the banjo. Okay for me as I have a lot of guitar experience, but not something a complete begineer would find easy. There are also no instructions on how to do other maintenance topics like remove the resonator, how the tailpiece is adjusted, how to change drum head. That said, once set up the banjo seems well constructed and plays well with a decent "banjo" sound. My son likes it. I would recommend this kit as a good value start to banjo, but you may need some help to set it up. I would give 3.5 stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money
30 year guitarist, first Banjo and I have to say I’m a fan.Firstly the goodies..Comes with a number of finger picks, a tuner, a piezo pickup, a strap, a gig bag, a wall mount to hang it up, spare strings, instructions on how to set it up and the tools required plus one cleaning cloth. This alone was really impressive. So is it any good?In a word.. yes!Takes a bit of time to get the bridge set up for good intonation but it’s well worth doing.Have never heard of this company before but decided to take a chance based on the reviews and I’m glad I did.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginners kit, except for the tuner
I decided to make 2023 the year I learned banjo. Having never played a string instrument before I wanted a good beginner's instrument with everything I would need to get started. This is a lovely banjo, with plenty of extra kit. I took it to me local music shop to get the bridge set up (having tried and failed to do it myself) and the lady who helped me was really impressed with everything, except the tuner. She recommended the Guitar Tuna app for smart phones instead. The other thing I would add is that the picks supplied are not the best for beginners. They are far too thick, and all three are plastic. I bought an all metal 0.15mm set from Dunlop (available from Bolo) and they're must easier and more comfortable to use.I'm currently working my way through two banjo courses on YouTube. Eli Gilbert's 30 Day Banjo for Beginners and Jim Pankey's Learn To Play Bluegrass. Gilbert's course is much more structured, Pankey's course is a bit more free wheeling. I feel like I'm getting the best of both and really enjoying my new instrument.
5.0 out of 5 stars Never played a stringed instrument before this !
I have always wanted to try the banjo but had reservations. However, I took a chance on this kit and WOW was I surprised. The banjo looks, feels and sounds fantastic. With all the other pieces in the kit, I have gone from never having picked up a stringed instrument before, to be able to play half a dozen tunes within 3 months. I cannot fault this complete package for the beginner and thoroughly recommend this item and the company in general. I had a slight issue with the tuner and within a week had received not only a sincere and genuine apology, but a brand new replacement... Superb all round from start to finish.. Well packed and beautiful item, great sound and value for money and brilliant customer care and service.. If like me your wanting to learn the banjo but unsure, please seriously consider this kit. I'm SO glad I did.

This product is cheap for a reson ? There seems to be no quality control whatsoever, the banjo arrived this morning and my first impression was ye it looks ok it does not scream quality and you can see that in the nut and a lot of other parts cheap and cheerful well what you want sub £250, i am not a seasoned banjo player but a newbie i do own another banjo a deering but instead of buying a resonater for that i went for this (mistake) when i unpacked it i could hear something in the resonater and it turned out to be a screw from the resonater so 3 screws holding it on and one rattling around i got the instruction book on how to set up read it from page one to page eleven then proceeded to remove the resonater to recover the screw, then decided while it's off check everything else every J hook was loose not one or two the whole bloody lot, so proceeded to tighten them as per the book, now as I got past the tail piece one of the screws that go through the pot that holds the bracket in place for the J clamp in place was not doing the job it barley protrudes through the pot and you guessed it the pot is thicker in that particular place and that bracket is usless, this is were I give up and send the bloody thing back, at least deering test and play every single banjo before it leaves there factory clearly Vango do not and I doubt they have quality control.

Alles tadellos und sehr empfehlenswert.
Great banjo for beginner/knock around
This is a well constructed banjo an absolute steal at this price- plus the extras the tuner works great, the strap is very good and the case is very good, the value is amazing. Now I will talk about somethings for more experienced players and things the manufacturers could do to bring this banjo to the next level if they are reading, I am going to list a few things that should be done for very low cost at the manufacturering level (I am guessing around 10 to 15 dollars per unit) would put this on the next level 1. The fret gauge should be increased2. The position of the 5th string tuner -this I really can't do anything about but could be fixed at the manufacturer with no cost the problem with the position is I use my thumb for a C chord and when playing with the capo on the 2nd fret ( in key of A, very popular) I cannot fret the 4th fret on the D string with my thumb see picture the blonde fret board is the Vangoa the darker one is my Deering Sierra it should line up with the 4th fret. 3. The L bracket for the tailpiece that attaches to the coordinator rod this hole needs to be redrilled to lower the L bracket so the tailpiece sits firmly on the retention hoop see picture. 4. The tuners - they stay in tune but if you are sharp you have to down tune close to a half a step then tune up from there. The cheapest planetary tuners on the market for the 4 tuners on the headstock would be better than what is on there and if you want to upgrade the hole will be drilled for the right size and you won't have 8 tiny screw holes in your headstock ( I am doing this anyway). I bought this as a project doing these simple things wound make this banjo alot more attractive to more experienced players. Even with these issues still a extremely great deal.
