As will rarely be used I didn't want to spend alot on an expensive machine. This was easy to put together, works perfectly and is easy to clean.Just freeze the silver tub for at least 7-8h (with inpatient kids of course we tried it sooner but I would recommend the full 8 as advised as otherwise just churns forever and doesn't thicken so you are left starting over). Start the paddle BEFORE ADDING THE LIQUID otherwise it starts to freeze and the paddle doesn't move!It takes apx 20mins to churn and is edible straight away as very soft scoop. Freezing for at least 1-2h and you have a better consistency. It keeps well in freezer as long in an airtight container (we just used old ice cream tubs). It isn't the biggest, a full container was about 1.5L with 4 kids 4-13y and 3 adults it did about one serving each. Will invest in a spare freezable part for when they visit next.Quick and easy recipe:1.5 cup double cream1.5 cup full fat milk0.5 cup sugar2 teaspoons mint extract (I love mint choc chip but without the choc chips so I was very happy)We also tried vanilla which tasted like Hagen Daas.Definitely got my money worth and more this summer. So easy to use my 13y niece was making it herself after eating it all. Would definitely recommend.
4.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing first attempt / second time perfect!
I've used this precisely once since buying over 3 months ago and that attempt was a bit of a disaster! as I As a seasoned manual ice-cream maker, I bought this specifically to avoid baby-sitting the product whilst freezing. Bowl duly frozen as per instructions, the moisture froze on contact with it, making it impossible for the paddle to budge. There is no customer service from Andrew James. The ice-cream tastes great, but being high in fat takes a hacksaw to cut through so considerable defrosting is needed before serving. Combined with the volume (it takes a whopping 1.6L which takes up considerable freezer space) its going to be a while before I try it again, and even then I won't be looking to fill the whole bowl again, just in case.Am updating this after my second attempt in Feb 2024 - this time I followed the instructions and poured the chilled mixture into the running machine slowly and carefully. I ran it for 30 mins, then another 15 just to be sure and then froze. The outcome is really smooth, can be served straight from the freezer despite the high fat content and crucially is crystal-free! I can't believe how easy this makes ice-cream making, also washing it up was a doddle as the lid detached from the motor easily. I can't wait until my next attempt, just as soon as I empty out the freezer.
5.0 out of 5 stars Can’t stop using it!
Overall I absolutely LOVE my new ice cream maker. Or as I have mainly used it; frozen yogurt maker. I found it so easy to use. I leave the centre part in the freezer over night (it needs at least four hours I have found) and when I’m ready I just blend the ingredients in my blender, you don’t have to but I find it makes it creamier, (my favourite is just thick Greek yogurt, raspberries and a bit of honey) pour it in and press go. Takes no time at all, usually it’s ready in about 10 minuets. I find if I scoop my froyo out and put it in the freezer for half an hour it solidifies a bit more but that’s down to what texture you want. Great machine at a great price!I think the most important thing that I’d like to have known at the start is to pre mix your ingredients and then as soon as you pour them into the machine turn it on! Otherwise it starts to freeze too quickly and the mixer can’t turn properly leaving you with a mess.
1.0 out of 5 stars Needs freezing, Difficult to; detach parts, remove ice cream, sturdily loud, takes ages
Actual unit needs to be put in the freezer for a very long timeDifficult to detach partsDifficult to remove ice cream once completeAdvertised time to work under estimatedThe unit isn't bound together well it jumps and makes a lot of noise because of poor clips
5.0 out of 5 stars Freezes well, creates ice cream in minutes and easy to use
Weight is not too heavy, looks great and compact, low noise, consistent results.I was confident in using it based on the description and practicality. I think there are some areas which can be improved but it's too early to tell yet. I will look forward to using in continuously.
3.0 out of 5 stars Ice cream in a day or 2
The product itself is well made, good quality and easy to clean. Alright if your only looking toMake enough for 1 or 2 people, and one serving each based on the size, so not ideal for a family to use. Makes lovely ice cream, but it’s just too slow a process for my sweet cravings.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen gadget!
My youngest granddaughter and I had lots of fun making a strawberry sorbet and a banana ice cream. I bought it primarily so I could try making frozen yoghurts for myself as I'm diabetic and making my own sugar free desserts will help me stick to a healthy eating plan. Easy to put together and use and washing up is a breeze.I can see this will be getting a lot of use.
4.0 out of 5 stars Andrew James Ice Cream Maker Machine Frozen Yoghurt Sorbet Maker, Detachable Ice-Cream
My very first time I've used an ice cream maker and have to say it's good..Followed instructionsfroze tub 24+ hours turned on the machine and added ice cream mix and away we go. 20-25 mins later ice cream. I bought the ready mix and it was tasty. Wasn't sure which 1 to buy to just played 1 potato 2 potato. Made some very tasty ice cream too.I'm not sure if this is normal or because of the mix bought but I was expecting Mr Softy type ice cream. I ended up with icy ice cream. I may have done something wrong or got the wrong mix or something. Yes it was nice but not what I expected. Maybe my expertations were a little high from a cheap ice cream maker.I will try again next weekend to make some more with a different ready mix.I'll give it 4-5 for now. If I make a better batch I'll change the score.
