5.0 out of 5 stars All round very good tuner
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Ordered this to replace my older Denon internet radio tuner that can no longer receive the BBC internet radio streams.Quickly run through the setup, connected to wifi etc, which was very straightforward and it was up an running. The audio quality of the reception on the internet part is excellent, as is reception quality on FM and the DAB+ tuner.Easy to use and store many stations as favourites using the remote. This unit is build around the Frontier chipset, (identical to the Roberts internet radios) so the menu is well designed and easy to use. It also supports the mobile app to control the device with called 'Undock' that is in the app stores for free. Also plugged in a USB drive with MP3 tracks on and it auto detected these without issue.Couple more points, for the DAB / FM reception it comes with a standard telescopic rod antenna. Which is fine if you live in a good DAB coverage area. (which we don't). However this antenna can be unscrewed to reveal a standard F-Type connector on the back of the unit. (see photo) I was able to connect an external roof antenna to this and improve the number of DAB stations. Surprised that this is not mentioned in their promotional literature as it's a massive bonus.Last comment, only bad points are the look and feel of the tuner, it is very lightweight, with an external power adapter, and it doesn't support DNLA steaming to connect to a NAS server. But for the price I can easily live with this!
5.0 out of 5 stars First class DAB+ / Internet Radio unit
If you're looking for a radio that gets you access to thousands of stations all over the world this is the one to buy!As well as DAB+ and FM you have Internet Radio, podcasts, Bluetooth and Spotify. All you need is to connect to an amplifier, existing hi-fi system or active speakers (which I have).By changing the antenna to an extendable, magnetic one I was able to pull in DAB+ stations that I couldn't before!Very easy to set up and use with a handy instruction booklet you will be able to listen to radio from around the world. And it comes with a remote control. This unit is well worth the money as long as you have an amplifier/hi-fi with Aux input or active speakers.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad bit of kit.
I have held back on writing this review because of the mixed comments left by others. I wanted to give the tuner a fair chance before writing this review. Anyway, I purchased the unit back in October 2021 and I was somewhat surprised by the lack of packaging. It would not provide much protection if it was dropped but on opening the box I was relieved to to see nothing was damaged, not outwardly anyway. What you get in the box is the tuner, mains adapter, audio connection leads, remote control, batteries for the remote and a slim instruction booklet. The booklet is also available on line. Oh!, and there is a leaflet selling the benefits of Spotify premium, must not forget that. I should say that the reason I bought the tuner was primarily for listening to internet radio and my music downloaded on a USB stick.First impressions were, the unit looks good but a little lightweight, it sit proudly on all four feet without any wobble. As you have probably read elsewhere, the FM/ DAB telescopic aerial is not designed to be removed so be careful where you place the tuner in a stacked system in case the aerial knocks against, say the open lid of a turntable. If you want to fit a external aerial it possible if you know what you are doing but I left that well alone. The aerials for wi fi and Bluetooth on the other hand are separate so have to be screwed on. Pity the same cannot be said for FM/DAB one, strange that. I connected the power lead and the analogue audio leads between the tuner and amplifier. Other means of connection (digital) are available but given the age of my amplifier, analogue connection was the only option available, which is fine. I used my own RCA cables, the one supplied with the unit had a 3.5 mm jack on one end which I did not like the look of.Time for the big switch on. Up popped up the welcome screen and the instructions were fairly easy to follow. I had to connect the tuner to the wi fi manually using the password, it did not respond to the push button option. One thing to note, the tuner does not like to be too far from the router. Mine is about 9 feet with a wall in between which is ok. You can have a cabled connection if you like. Then it is a case of scanning through the FM and DAB stations and pre setting the favourite stations. FM reception is ok so stations with a strong signal, a little hissy for the weaker ones. The tuner picked up all the DAB and DAB + stations I expected and they sound as good as you would expect DAB to sound. The internet stations can be found manually and pre set which is a real pain but I would recommend you set an account with a certain website, register the device and select the stations that way, It's far easier. The USB function performs very well (using wma and mp3 files) and like most of the features is easy to navigate once you are familiar. The sound quality is very good and there is a equalizer for your own personal taste. As my tuner is, as I have said, attached to a amplifier volume is not a issue. There are a wealth of features that I have not used to any extent. Bluetooth has a habit of dropping out every so often which can be annoying. So, in summary I would say this is a worthwhile purchase if you are buying it for the reasons I have, that is listening to internet radio and downloaded music on a memory stick. If FM is important to you then I would avoid unless you can get around the aerial issue. If you do decide to take the plunge, register the unit on line with Majority to get a free 3 year guarantee, they will even plant a tree. Happy listening and good luck.
5.0 out of 5 stars A nice piece of kit.
I purchased the majority Fitzwilliam 2024 not really knowing what to expect, i had never owned an internet radio before and I needed to replace my old radio tuner which was fast becoming obsolete. So after reading lots of reviews I took the plunge for the Fitzwilliam 2024 and I am very glad I did. I chose the black version as this would match my hi fi set up, the build quality is nice with plenty of ways to connect to amplifiers, speakers ect.The front panel has a range of buttons that are clearly labelled and a pair of jog dials one of which is for the menu screen and the other for volume and on\off. I find the display screen is nice and clear and the menu's are easy to navigate . The initial set up was very easy all you have to do is follow the prompts on screen, the sound quality is very good indeed with thousands of stations to choose from. Do I recommend this machine ? You bet I do.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you havenβt got one of these donβt delay. Brilliant!
Decided to bring my hi fi tuner up to date and said goodbye to my Technics 1989 model. A big step! This is a fantastic piece of kit. Easy to set up. Works perfectly with existing retro Technics kit, same dimensions and colour and a clock too. Easy to set up, DAB brilliant, Spotify perfect, internet radio great just exactly what I wanted. Excellent sound through basic phono leads and brilliant value for money. 3 year guarantee as well all for Β£150. Well done for making something so good which has it all. A great product and thrilled with it. If you havenβt got one donβt hesitate.
