5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee at home
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Had been using Nescafe machine for last few years which was good, but have a friend who always recommended Nespresso.Gave it a go as was good deal & glad I did.The machine looks very sophisticated but is very easy to use. Makes the coffee within 2-3 mins.Came with selection of samples which was great way to try to some nice new coffee, from espresso to Alto.I really like that because the Vertuo pods have a barcode, the machine automatically stops pouring when the coffee is made. This means you don't have to judge the pour time yourself & end up watering down the coffee. Most importantly, the coffee tastes great & come out at the ideal temperature, so you can enjoy it straight away.I like the way it disposes the used pods too with no mess & it comes with recycling bag which is nice touch.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect coffee once you find the pod that's right for you
The media could not be loaded. Excellent coffee machine, lovely looking and great coffee, came with 12 pods and once registered with Nespresso I got 50 free mixed pods, 5 different varieties, very easy to register, in the box is a code stuck on the drip tray, I didn't know why at first so threw it away but got it back to register, I think to get the 100 free pods you need to register for a pay monthly coffee account. Pods are so much cheaper direct from Nespresso rather than from Bolo for some reason, I installed the Nespresso App and ordered 60 pods, 6 varieties for £33 and could choose exactly what I wanted, seemed to be around £50 + From Bolo for similar quantity depending on what coffee you wanted.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very high quality machine, great coffee
This machine is much higher quality than we expected. Heavy duty, well designed, looks good, and most importantly makes fantastic coffee. It's like inkjet printers though - it's quite obvious that the machine is worth more than the price that you pay, but maker's profit is on the capsules. It works out at around GBP0.80 (c. $1) per cup of coffee, but it's not stopping us drinking lots of cups!(We've got a great recipe: in Spain you can get a coffee called a 'carajillo' (just ask for one after a meal): it's espresso made with 50% brandy. Our recipe: heat 40 ml cheap brandy in a microwave for 15 secs or so. Then add an espresso straight from the machine. Perfect carajillo!)
4.0 out of 5 stars The worst instruction manual I've seen in 40 years...
With a degree in Physics and a lengthy career in telecoms technical sales, latterly at executive level, you'd think figuring out a coffee machine would be child's play. Wrong! The machine itself is fine, I figured it out myself, didn't get electrocuted and I've tasted my first coffee from it, it tastes good. But the instruction manual could literally be an object lesson in how NOT to write these things. First of all there are three manuals, the first about safety: don't stick your fingers in the mains electricity socket, that sort of thing. The third is about how to buy capsules. Also fine. The second, however, is where the problems lie. Firstly, it is for three totally different machines: the Nespresso Vertuo, the Nespresso Vertuo Plus (my one) and the Vertuo Next. Pictures of how to operate the machine seem to vary randomly between all three and are completely unhelpful if you happen to own a different model: all have different features and different controls. And instead of the usual tedious and wasteful practice of giving you a really fat manual with an English, French, German section in, this manual has each individual step, sometimes across several pages, stated in 48 different languages, including such oddities as Russian, Arabic and who knows what else. Thankfully the English is first, otherwise you'd be pecking around so long to find Gujarati or whatever that you'd lose the will to live. There is no clear layout, with some sections just for one machine - for example the bluetooth setup, and others for all three in one common instruction set. And the approach to multiple languages means that the instructions are incredibly terse. Cleaning, for example, suggests pressing the only button on the thing three times within 2 seconds. Fair enough - it does some sort of cleaning cycle. But does it stop on its own? No idea. The manual doesn't say. After filling three very large cups with grubby looking water I decided to call time on it and press the button again, which seemed to persuade it to call a halt after a little more whizzing noises. And of course, I discovered you are supposed to run this cycle BEFORE dispensing your first coffee - after I had drunk the first cup. I doubt a little manufacturing grease will kill me, but it would be nice to have been told that more clearly. And there is also a descaling programme, which involves more gesturing with buttons and levers to coax it into operation. In summary, a fine machine ruined by a desire to save 2.5p on logistics to different countries and a technical writer who can barely spell. Final thought: does the author understand that 'BLINKING SUMMARY' could be a cause for some hilarity in the UK? Apparently not, as it lays out the various blink codes that the machine uses to indicate various conditions such as an empty tank, self-destruct mode engaged, or could it be the arrival of Darth Vader? Nobody knows unless you have an R2D2 unit handy or commit this lengthy blinking guide to memory. This guide really is a work of the utmost stupidity: who would have guessed that 'no light on' means that the machine is switched off? Really???UPDATE: I've now downloaded the United States version of this manual, which is in a more rational 3 languages: English, Spanish and French, and consequently has a lot more space to actually tell you how to use this specific product, the Vertuo Plus. To my astonishment, an entire feature is described which is missing entirely from the UK, Europe and Middle East manual: you can programme each cup size. Simply put in a capsule of the required cup size, espresso, double espresso, etc, then hold down the button until your cup is to the right fill. It will then remember the new setting for every capsule that size in future, until a factory reset is performed (also described). Any size fill for any nominal capsule size, from 10ml to 500ml is permitted. So you can dilute your espresso capsule into a large mug, if you really want to, and at the same time programme your 'Alto' (v. large) capsules into an espresso cup. More rationally, if you have 75ml cups, you can re-programme your double espresso setting (80ml by default) to fit. I checked the UK manual - this whole feature is simply absent. And as for the cleaning cycle, that is described fully. It takes 5 minutes, requires a 0.8L cup under it, and will complete on its own.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cafe quality coffee in 2 minutes.
The media could not be loaded. My Nespresso Vertuo machine arrived last Sunday and I’ve used it constantly since. As you can see in the video, it’s so easy to use - just pop up the lid, pop the pod in, close the lid and let the machine do the rest. For those who like milk with their coffee, I’d urge you to get a milk frother. The coffee comes out the Nespresso machine at a temperature ready to drink straight away so putting cold milk in the mug is going to take away from the flavour and experience. Also, if you’re going to order the barista creations - vanilla custard pie etc, you’ll also need a milk frother. They don’t taste very nice without milk. As you can see in the photos, it was so easy for me to get the 100 free pods January 2021 offer from Nespresso. I sent my serial number in on Sunday 10th January and my 100 coffees arrived Wednesday 13th January.
5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful bargain
