After many years the CD holder of my previous Cambridge Audio CD player finally stopped going in and out of the machine: it had broke. I told an audio buff friend of mine that I was in the market for a new CD player. He said that he had just bought this model himself, based on good reviews in specialist audio magazines. So, being highly recommended and at the lower price of the hi-fi separates price range, I ordered the AXC35. It was delivered the next day, via courier, from Cambridge Audio. From what I have heard so far, I have not been disappointed. The sound is crisp and clear. If you are in the market for a CD player at the lower price range for hi-fi separates, then this is a very good purchase, in my opinion.

Disappointed, vocals held back,on low volume could hardly hear them Evan normal listening felt like I needed an equaliser to bring vocals forward.

After having my Sony CD player for the past 10 years I decided to upgrade. I wanted a straightforward two channel CD player that could play my CDR and CDRW compilations, without paying top dollar. The Marantz 6006UK was an out of box dud so was sent back and I was drawn to the Cambridge. What a revelation. You sit down to play a recording you think you know and it takes on a new life especially the stereo phasing, then you start to dig out your old CD's just to see how they sound. In a word great. The player is simple, uncluttered and good looking. Okay the CD drawer shoots in and out at speed but so what - it's what it does with the silver disc that matters.

Linked the cd player with a refurbished Linn LK1-LK2 amp, Linn Kan2, active, bi-wired speakers, Linn Kan spiked speaker stands, Linn connects, Linn cable etc,..What a sound, what a set-up for 'cd and lp', starts with the source, for 349 it's really good value, I'd love to spend more on a player, aka a Naim, but the CA35s within my budget, probably upgrade the DAC when I have the sponds, I'm having cancer treatment at The Christie, and deffo need my tunes for some sort of distraction therapy when i'm at home, what a sound and it all starts with the source, seeing cd players for 50+k, interesting to hear the difference, i'm a big follower of 'hand-me-down technology', the 35 player has that, decent reliable British electronic engineering, glad i bought one and got this stereo set-up, be hard to beat I reckon, happy days!

Die Produkte hingegen sprechen eine deutlich andere Sprache.Dies gilt insbesondere für diesen extrem preisgünstigen CD Player, der es gar in die Referenzklasse der Audiomagazine geschafft hat. Im Vergleich zu meinem Marantz CD 5003 klingt er "analoger" und lebendiger, sehr musikalisch. Noch deutlicher wird die Qualität wenn man sie ins Verhältnis zu Bluetooth Klangquellen in Verbindung mit Streaming setzt. Alles ist da, trockene druckvolle Bässe, musikalisch flüssige Mitten und transparente Höhen, im Resultat beschert dies eine gute Tiefenstaffellung und die einzelnen Instrumente sind im Stereopanorama gut ortbar.Ich beschreibe in diesem Zusammenhang meine Kette: Ein Cayin Röhrenverstärker mit Bluetooth Board, der dem digitalen CD Signal noch mehr Wärme hinzufügt. Es hat natürlich mit dem Qualitäten des Players nur peripher zu tun, ich erwähne es, weil es regelrechte Glaubenskriege zu analogen und digitalen Klangquellen gibt und mein Weg diese Kombination ist, eine Form der Kompensation des digitalen Signals sozusagen. Ausgegeben wird das Signal an ein Paar Heco Celan Revolution 9, die nicht zuletzt wegen ihrer Sensitivität auch an Röhrenamps extrem lebendig und impulsstark aufspielen.Liest man die einschlägige Presse, weiss man zum Einen um die hohe Verarbeitungsqualität des CD Players, vor Allem aber wird durch die Bank auf die hochwertigen Wandler hingewiesen.Mögen sich die Features in Grenzen halten, so hat es Cambridge Audio geschafft die richtigen Prioritäten zu setzen. Ich hätte mir noch ein Slot-In statt der Lade gewünscht, aber dies schmälert die gebotene Leistung nicht. Top Produkt, eigentlich aufgrund des Preis- Leistungsverhältnisses konkurrenzlos.Nachtrag: Das vielleicht beste Feature habe ich mangels Wissen und Erfahrung bislang unterschlagen: Der Player verarbeitet mehrere Formate, u.A. auch das populäre MP3 und genau hier zeigt er sich von seiner allerbesten Seite. Es scheint so zu sein, dass Files mit niederer Bitrate hochskaliert werden, der bereits erwähnt hochwertige Wandler tut sein Übriges. Ich bin mehr als beeindruckt! Einmal mehr ein absolut uneingeschränkter Best Buy und man kann es Cambridge Audio nicht hoch genug anrechnen in diesem Preissegment auch weniger vermögenden HiFi Fans ein maximales Hörerlebnis zu ermöglichen, Robin Hood lässt grüßen ;-)!

Terrible sound - no cables included
The sound is too harsh and too bright (tested with analog connection and Visaton Tristar loudspeakers.And there is the brutality that no audio cables are included. If you pay over 400 euros for a CD player, they should be included.Instead Cambridge Audio does include useless English power cords that are useless in mainland Europe. So far for sustainability...
