Yes, it is plastic. But the transparent parts are glass, unlike many of the metal lanterns, and glass is more transparent and doesn't get cloudy with age. I've had a number of metal lanterns, and the metal always deteriorates after a time and looks terrible - after a while you can't undo the screws, which is why I bought this replacement.The screws connecting the backplate to the lantern itself are admittedly short for the duty - however, I would suggest placing a small blob of blue-tack behind them, particularly when installing on a rough surface - this will keep the screws forward so that you can connect the nuts to them more easily - it will compress as you tighten the nuts.Some people have problems with the room for the electrical connections - although I didn't have a problem, I find that Wago connectors make the connections simpler and quicker, and furthermore can be secreted into the body of the lamp more easily.I'd buy another of these over the metal version any day.

I wasn't expecting something fully plastic; it looks like something you might get from a 3d printer. It comes with thick solid glass tho (the other reviewer should look in the box - the glass is wrapped in cardboard), and I guess plastic doesn't rust. From a distance I guess it looks fine. Not much room for the cable & connector tho. It does not sag under its own weight as one reviewer said. It's not an impressive piece of kit, but it's also not as bad as you think it is when you first take it out of the box.

All plastic construction makes this flimsy and insecure. It would not take a hit from a passing object of any sizeThe top did not fit properly so i may have to glue it on

These are cheap, all plastic construction. They look well bit I would be concerned about how waterproof they are. If I was doing it again, I would go for the resin ones.
