SummaryIt's a lovely set if you fancy that coffee shop vibe at home in your own kitchen with proper cups & saucers rather than the ubiquitous mug. However, you should be aware that a couple of the items in this deliberately mismatched set may be slight seconds.Having already made a recent purchase of the Nicola Spring orange tea set for 6 with a matching pot, sugar bowl, jug, cups and saucers as a birthday gift for someone recently, I expected the same very high quality finish in this mismatched set I bought for myself. That wasn't the case.While just as a attractive as the matching set, but in a more whimsical way because the pieces are very deliberately mismatched, it was clear that these cups and saucers contained odd items from the seconds batch. There were little flaws and marks in the glaze that had been totally absent from the matching set I had previously purchased. So I was relieved this wasn't the set I'd chosen to gift. However, the marks are not so bad as to make it worth returning, when it was chosen for regular everyday use.They look very attractive behind my coffee machine and kettle hanging on a cup and saucer stand placed on the window sill. They are robust enough for handwashing on a Monday morning, after you've had a cuppa, but before the caffiene has hit your system enough to fully awaken you. They are also capable of withstanding the dishwasher and even microwave should you be so uncouth as to want to ping the occasional cup of hot milk before bed.Unlike some cups I have had the misfortune to hold in the past, the handles are a very sensible size and shape for everyone from small children to big men to hold. This ergonomic design may be a benefit if you intend them to be used by the elderly, arthritic or anyone prone to clumsiness. The cups sit very neatly in the saucers, minimising wobble if you want to carry your cuppa from room to room or upstairs to bed. The saucers are ideally curved for balancing a biscuit for dunking too. The various geometric designs are suitable for unisex use, having none of that overtly over feminine frou frou vibe that many may find to twee for mixed company.The cups are the correct size for my Dolce Gusto coffee pods, and just right for a decent cup of tea. It's surprising how hard it's gotten to find a basic cup and saucer of the right size for everyday use in this modern world, and those few that do exist tend to be rather expensive. The Nicola Spring range is a bit of a find, as they are reasonably priced. There are matching crockery pieces in the same range if you want to collect a full dinner and/or tea set to go with these cups and saucers.
