Bought for stubborn tap came off easy with this I change taps all the time so will be using it a lot. Just need small box or bag to keep it in.

When trying to replace a dripping valve on my Franke Davos kitchen tap, I found that the handle was seized solid onto its splined shaft. Having tried various types of penetrant spray, heat and brute force I decided to give this item a go.The puller looked promising, but the problem I had was that the tips of the jaws are not at all "sharp" and were unable to get a grip on the edges of the Davos handle. These handles are very sleek and almost sit flush with the rest of the tap body, with only a tiny gap.My solution was to order a selection pack of "hose clamps" (the "Jubilee" type, which can be tightened to incredible tightness with the screw and worm drive). I fitted two of these round the tap handle with their screw thingies arranged at 180° to each other to give something chunky for the puller's jaws to pull against. Then with a lot of force applied by the puller, the handle eventually pinged off.My other comment relates to the pin diameter. On my particular tap, after removing the screws, the pin gradually forces its way down inside the threaded hole in the end of the valve's splined shaft. I checked afterwards and this had indeed ruined the thread. Not a problem in this case because I was replacing the valve anyway, but could be an issue if you are just trying to remove a tap handle for some other purpose.

I had a badly jammed tap-head which wouldn't shift despite spraying a few litres of WD40 and hitting it with a hammer. I was dubious that this tool would work, especially as it is half the price of similar tools.I was surprised at the quality of the tool - it's weighty and very robust - and it did the job nicely. Just position it correctly and keep turning (needs a bit of effort if tap is badly seized up). I also taped a bit of cardboard around the tap handles to prevent the tool scratching (depends what type of tap you have). There are a few videos on YouTube showing how to use it, but it's fairly foolproof. £10 seems a lot to undo a tap-head, but considerably cheaper than getting a plumber and/or buying a new tap.

Extracting tap cap from ceramic valve. Had to soak in white vinegar as seized on. Extractor had to be held by large cable tie across arms to stay engaged with jubilee clip on mushroom shaped tap. Tip has to go right down to bottom of threaded hole to achieve maximum purchase. Popped tap head off successfully enabling valve replacement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bent on first use - failed to remove tap handle.

Failed to remove tap head. Centre pin bent on first use. The arms also don't stay in place and spring outwards once they come under any pressure. All in all not fit for purpose. Functionality poor, value for money poor, ease of use poor.
