5.0 out of 5 stars Very well presented kit, astonishing value for money, works well
The instructions are sparse, but adequate - essentially a list of component values against the board designator. You have to be able to read the resistor colour code, or have a multimeter handy to tell the resistors apart, and know that electrolytic caps have to be fitted the right way round. All the positions are clearly marked on the pcb, which is well made. Soldering was easy, a socket is provided for the ic. You will need a medium to fine soldering iron and a pair of cutters to trim the leads after soldering.Worked very well, ranging from 0.6Hz to 1.1MHz. The square wave output is constant amplitude the sine/triangle wave changes amplitude with one of the posts - too high and the waveform 'clips' as it runs out of head room.I'll probably make the effort to put it in a case with switches to set the frequency range and select sine or triangle
4.0 out of 5 stars Amplifier button would work from high to low;
Good value for money, pleased with the enclosure, applaud the idea. However the amplification button works from high to low, (high most left) and turning clockwise, decreasing, and not much difference between fine and course adjustment. Overall, for the money spent, consider it as a short, positive exercise!
5.0 out of 5 stars Seems ideal as a wave generator for diy projects
Took about an hour to complete and worked first time. Ideal for my needs as a new student of RF electronics.
5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and rewarding build
I very much enjoyed the assembly of the oscillator! It’s facilities all worked first time! There were two small things that marred the assembly and actuation the first being that four of the assembly bolts were too short and the second that the minimum voltage output was ~80mV. A little erksome but too significant!
3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as described but a fun project
For value, this is a good kit. The downside is that the main chip is not a genuine chip and will not function at 12V. Lowering the supply to 9V DC makes the chip function, however the sine wave is not particularly true. The adjustment pots are poorly chosen and especially the fine tuning pot. Should be a much lower value than the coarse pot. The range pot is wired back to front, so turning it clockwise LOWERS the range.Other than that, it was easy to assemble although the height of one capacitor makes it hard to close the case. For its price, it is good value. Sadly the instruction sheet had been copied many times and was difficult to read the component values. I had to search online for a version that was easier to read!Despite this, it was easy to build and worked first time (once I worked out the DC supply - see above).
2.0 out of 5 stars Great for sine, not great for much else.
Both square and triangle waves are a complete mess, and aren't adjustable anyway. Sine waves, however, are totally fine for basic tests. If all you need is a decent range of sine waves you can't go wrong.I would suggest setting up a 5 poll rotary switch and a couple decent pots and things and 3D printing a decent case. Don't even bother with toggles/outputs for the tri/square waves. (Even probing the IC directly gives messy waves)
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun little project!
For a cheap little function generator, it works! The ic was marked with the correct numbers. It is quite noisy on sine & triangle settings, but for the price and the learning experience it is worth the money. The square wave is a lot cleaner on my board.I used a 9v and 12v power supply to see if that made any difference to the noise, I also used batteries, always the same noise. They're cheap and educational, so get a thumbs up from me.
4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable assembly
Not much in the way of instructions, but all the bits were there. Soldered and assembled without too much trouble. Make sure the pins go in vertical, or the jumper won't fit through the case. Not powered it up yet, so can't comment, but enjoyed assembling it.
assemble with screws upside down else you'll get a sratched table.
Took me longer to remove the protective foil on the clear plastic than assemling the module.Clearly maked components and pcb. Note the electrolytic capacitors has to be close to the pcbelse they'll press on the plastic top piece.4 small rubber feet should have been in the kit!
Quality Control?
Shipped with a visibly blown capacitor (see pic), IC wasn't in a sponge or anything so the pins were crushed flat.Seems to be a lack of quality control. I'd avoid this one unless you're feeling lucky.
Kit facile à réaliser et intéressant
Très bonne qualité, fonctionnement correct. Il n'y a plus qu'à le modifier un peu pour y ajouter la modulation d'amplitude.
WORKED, nice little KIT you build it.
Didn't realize it was a kit until I had it in my hands. LOL!!! Ok then, break out the soldering iron! After about an hour of careful assembly, I had a very nice, compact, inexpensive signal generator. My particular use is to run the odometer of a motorcycle dirt bike instrument cluster up to the correct mileage. It took 22 hours using the frequency generator set to triangle wave function, and setting the pulse frequency so my gauge read out 199 MPH. I fed the signal input into the wheel speed sensor while powering the cluster with a bench top power supply. From 0 to 2156 miles, perfect.I have no use for the function generator anymore, but for a few dollars and a little effort to build it was worth it.
