I had issues getting the overflow bit not to leak - still working on that as I'm not sure what's going wrong. I screwed it in tight with the rubber seal in place but it's still leaking (not a major issue as I tend not to flood my own kitchen sink). As for the strainer bit, this fit ok but I did not rate either of the seals - I ended up using seals from another strainer kit I ordered as they seemed much better suited to the task.The reason I ordered this McAlpine one was because of the good reputation McAlpine has and also because the other strainers I bought just would not screw into the p trap (they just would not thread properly for some reason). But this strainer from McAlpine threaded perfectly.Basically every product I ordered for this DIY job had let me down somewhere, so I am basically using a mish-mash of parts from multiple strainer kits and multiple p traps. Still cheaper than a plumber though!

I foolishly bought a sink with a free waste kit: it was complete junk and leaked. This McAlpine kit was perfect, especially as finding a kit for a square overflow can be difficult.The kit uses high tolerance parts that feel solid, and the overflow gasket is reversible so it can accommodate flat or curved sinks.

I wish I hadn't cheapskated on the first two I tried for my sink (the supplied grey manufacturers one, and then a builder's merchant branded one) . Both were nasty. McAlpine stuff is the absolute dog's danglies by comparison. The only thing I don't like is the foam seal - they are closed cell but really spoil the look and will be gunge collectors I would have thought. Personally I ditched it and used LS-X, it's a kind of plumber's silicon. It all connected like a dream to the trap (also McA) - no cross threads and nice to handle when assembling too. The pic is of the finished plumbing, it was a start from scratch job having moved the kitchen from one room to another. I have 3 appliances using a waste connection (DW, condenser TD and WM) - McA don't seem to 3 a connection off the shelf, so the TD and WM are an adaptation - it was tight t get it all in, but I just about found a workaround, although as DIYer I admit it took a few weeks to think it out!. (All white components are McAlpine offerings).

When I bought a sink with a D90 drain hole and a rectangular overflow, i never thought it would be this hard to find a compatabile waste (obviously it was) but this does the job , a bit fiddly to get the overflow alligned until you realise you can shine a light through the back to see the hole :) and you need to squish the overflow pipe into a roughly oval shape and lubricate to get it to fit onto the overflow outlet.
