Works well, two speed via a simple light switch
Although the fan itself is fairly quiet, I chose to mount the fan on a wooden board but acoustically isolated from it by some foam I found. I then mounted this board to wooden beams in my roof by more foam. Result: even the small level of vibration of the motor was not transferred to the house. As to the wiring being difficult to understand, I can’t see why people have found it so. I used a zigbee switch controlled by home assistant to turn the fan on.
Good solid fan
Fan tested immediately upon unpacking, and over-run timing checked (15min straight out of the box); ran very quietly in this state. When placed in venting, there is air-flow noise but this is expected and easily tolerable. Fan currently set to 'Max', but may add switch to allow adjustment of fan speed.Like the fact the fan mechanism separates from inlet/outlet plates; this makes it easy for placement of unit and securing of ducting (insulated). Fan mechanism can then be placed within the end plates, and rotated about its axis before securing at a point suitable for wiring. As another review states, grommet into terminal box is too small for UK flat 3 core & Earth cable, I used grommet from previous fan which just about fitted, but had to be careful when securing cable strain-relief bar, so as not to screw through outer insulation (of cable).Plenty of space within terminal box, allowing easy connections to terminal block, which appeared solid and gave a good, secure fit to each wire core.On opening terminal box initially, whilst N, L and LT are clearly marked and self-explanatory , aided by a wiring diagram on terminal box lid and of course instructions, there is also a further connection marked (in smaller writing) L1 and L1 L2 with further markings heading off to second termination block (no user-available connections here, just links to motor windings). If a 240v supply is provided to L1 connection, motor will switch to 'min' speed. Earth not required, so earth wire fully sheathed and left safely within terminal box.Fan wired to switch on with bathroom light; whereas old fan would be at full speed almost instantaneously, this one appears to have a 'soft-start' as takes a second or so to get to full speed / suction - that is fine.Would I recommend? Yes, however only time will tell for longevity.
Excellent ventilator fan, needs professional installation
The Blauberg Turbo-E 100 T extractor fan has excellent suction, but at 56dBA at 1metre for the 33W setting one does know it is on! It actually has a removable 130mm fan body, clamped between reducing ports securely mounted to mate with the 100mm ducting. A professional electrician should fit this fan.The timer adjustment is from less than 2 minutes to about 30 minutes. It needs care because the control potentiometer has parts at live mains (including in the screwdriver slot!), so it is essential to use an insulated screwdriver (a plastic one is supplied). The ports are 95mm external measurement so will fit inside standard ducting, perhaps a bit too loosely; we needed to build them up with tape to make a thin sealing ring, and secured the ducts with the usual duct tape. The sharp edge on the inside of the port mouth also needed to be gently radiused to lessen high-frequency air-flow noise. There are two power options, selectable by choosing a link or not on the mains connector block. Adding the link tells the controller to run at the slower speed and lesser power. Measured power corresponds to the specification for each speed; we ended up using the lesser power for slightly less noise, after fitting a test switch to allow more ease in comparing noise vs extraction. Adding rubber grommets for the four screws holding the mounting bracket to the joist allows the fan to vibrate that tiny bit without rattling or transmitting hum to the house structure. The supplied very elastic grommet is too small for the normal three core + earth (L, L1, E, N) UK house wiring, so an appropriate grommet was fitted, but no adjustment was needed to the connector housing. The supplied instructions are sufficient to enable most electricians to make a safe installation. They mention regular cleaning every six months or so. This is made easy by the fan being easily removed from the mounting bracket without needing to touch the ducts or wiring (if there is slack)This replaced a smaller, less capable and very old 100mm timer fan that was becoming noisy and intermittent in starting. Some adjustment to the ducting was needed, but in a loft there is usually sufficient room.
If you care about right to repair, don't buy Blauberg!
[This review specifically concerns a Blauberg TURBO-E 100T, purchased from the Ventilation Shop in 2019. When I try to leave a review for that item, it is automatically replaced by the Xpelair XIMX100T, so this is the best I can do...]The Blauberg TURBO-E 100T fan seemed good for about 4 years until it suddenly wasn't. I diagnosed failure of timer board (a relatively cheap electronic part). I contacted the manufacturer, Blauberg, via their online "technical support", to be told that Blauberg do not offer spare parts. In other words, they do not support the user's right to repair.Incidentally, this makes me question the Blauberg hype about "German quality". Could it be that Blauberg products are acquired fully assembled, in bulk, from manufacturers in the far east, meaning that no spare parts even exist in the markets where the products are sold?Whatever the reasons behind Blauberg's position, the result is that, yet again, the customer is nudged in the direction of tossing a 95% usable product into landfill. Every tiny example like this adds to the hellscape of non-perishable detritus humanity is creating. If you care about right to repair, don't buy Blauberg!
