I bought these sugar cubes when I was entertaining friends from abroad and wanted them to experience a traditional English Afternoon Tea. Out came the silver tea service and the sugar tongs which actually belonged to my GtGrandparents! When my guests saw the sugar cubes (or sugar lumps as we always called them) they thought they were ‘very quaint’ and loved using the tongs to pick them up from the sugar bowl and gently drop them into their tea cups. The gentle clunk as the sugar hit the bottom of the cup delighted them! I was surprised at the quantity in this purchase, they are very neatly packed and the box stores the surplus ones for future use. I have young grandchildren and they are very fond of wandering into the dining room and using the sugar tongs to pick up the cubes still in there! Not wanting to have a sugar rush by eating too many I have now turned this into a game to see how many they can pick up in a set time! They love this as the winner is rewarded with one sugar cube! So these are not just useful for their intended purpose they also are teaching the children how to count (and also that too much sugar is not a good idea of course!)

I don't use white sugar in my tea or coffee and bought these specifically to use with my occasional tipple of Absinthe. One cube is an ideal size to use on the spoon and these melt nicely with the iced water.My only real criticism (we all know what white sugar tastes like) is that the box in which they are packed leaks sugar everywhere. The cubes are packed in such a way as to rub against each other, so that by the time you open the box, there's a lot of loose sugar in there and it escapes. Not much of an issue once you know about it.
