I bought it for my son and he was very happy about it because he could listen to his favourite music too. I can recommend this item to anyone.

Contrary to other reviews, the pads are soft enough, item looks robust and is easy to use - and works.Sound quality: I am not expecting these to be hi-fi quality but there's virtually no top end, booming middle to give a really booming, muddy sound. After a couple of weeks of use, I've got more used to this and actually turning down the volume a bit (which is possible due to the sound isolation) makes the sound better.Sound Isolation: works well as ear defenders - just like normal ones really - however, I was surprised to find there is some sound leaked from these. I was expecting it to be none (so could be used at a decent volume on the bus / train / plane without irritating others). It does leak some (obviously not as bad many other headphones). Maybe I am being harsh here as that isn't really what they're designed for but you'd think, given they're ear defenders they'd be completely isolated both ways. Still, you're going to be hard pushed to find normal headphones that leak as low as this. The sound isolation from the outside world however is brilliant. Mowing the lawn, or just listening to audio books from a connected mp3 player or the radio when walking by busy roads now is a pleasure. No cranking the volume right up just to hear anything. GreatAM radio: The headphones I was sent have an AM separation of 10Hz (USA standard) as opposed to 9Hz (rest of world). There's no mention of this either way on the Bolo listing but as soon as looking at the instruction sheet the 520-1710 KHz AM range is the dead give-away here. This means that they'll work for some stations but be slightly off but be totally out for other in the UK. The outcome of this is some stations will sound quiet / weak, for example Radio York broadcasts on 666kHz but the set can only tune to 660 OR 670 rendering the station really quiet.Despite the above, I'm giving it 4 stars (as opposed to my original review of 3) as it works, it's well built, it's a great idea, does work fine as ear defenders, volume is loud enough, they're comfy (I've worn them for over 2 hours and they haven't hurt / pinched my ears) and the controls are well thought out. The volume knob doubles as a digital tuning knob - sadly you can't hear the stations as you rotate it so means tuning manually is a step - listen - step - listen affair if tuning by hand - the autoscan (press volume / tune knob inwards) works well though negating this somewhat. There's a clock on here too which is a bonus. The mp3 player lead (3.5mm - 3.5mm stereo jack cable) is included. The good / bad thing here is that the unit is powered up when connected to the auxiliary device - good because this means that you can control the volume from the volume / tuning knob as you would in radio mode, but I guess the downside here is that this will run down the batteries of the headphones and the device feeding them as opposed to just having the device feeding them drive the earphones directly. Saying that I can imagine that the battery life of these will be good enough to make this not too much of a problem - I am still running on my first pair of AA batteries after 2 weeks+ of pretty regular use.

I was excited to receive this item and as soon as I received them I placed the batteries in and with in seconds I was listening comfortably and was instantly able to tune in whatever I liked. Purchased as a birthday gift to myself (yes sad I know) as they are a bit of a frivolity for me at least since I have plenty of standard ear defenders. Having the FM radio on whilst mowing means that I can listen to music and keep track of time with the news. First and foremost they seem to be on par with my standard defenders in terms of noise reduction. The radio and clock were fairly easy to set up with radio presets which is nice. I haven't used the 3.5mm Auxiliary input (cable included) in anger but tested it and it switches automatically and has decent volume, as does the radio. My only gripe with the FM radio was that it does tend to drift in and out of mono and stereo which gets a little annoying at times when on the move. Being able to lock to mono would have been useful - they seem fine in a static situation. There is no way to turn the display off completely as the clock is always on and a bit slow I should add! It doesn't appear to affect the battery life significantly however in a very 80s digital clock kind of way. My biggest pain point was actually a real pain point in that the head band is a little too tight on the ears - I do have biggish ears but these feel like my head is being squashed after a period of use regardless of how I've set the band. As a result I do tend to either have to take them off for a break or just go straight for the standard defenders which says it all really. Hopefully over time the band will loosen a little and I'll use them more...Update Aug 2020 - so a couple of years on and they still work ;) I've been through a few pairs of batteries with a few hours of radio use per week during the mowing season - I had a couple of 'dead' moments when the clock had gone off and this seemed to be down to a loose connection in the battery compartment but easily fixed. The soft shell cover material on the ear pads are starting to fray a bit and over time they will peel off which is expected. I still find the headband a little tight but I think that's more down to wearing safety glasses too, so the arms push into my head. Seeing other questions I learnt that the AM radio is set for the US as it increments in 10kHz units rather than 9kHz for Europe. Someone also asked about searching and auto-tune is supported by pressing the rotary knob in tune mode (I don't think I'd used this before!).

lowest volume is a little high for me but have worked great. Have used them 5 times over the summer, still running on the same batteries, no issues.
