Straw is valved and weighted so they can get the water from any holding angle.Can leak a little if all parts of the straw aren't pushed all the way in or top is slightly cross-threadedIt's sturdy and lasts wellMy only frustration is the straw is prone to going a bit manky and replacement straws are the same price as a new bottle which feels really wasteful as the cup itself is still in great condition
