I bought this because my toddler granddaughter shares my fascination with dinosaurs but I didn't realise quite how many variations there were. Great detail and illustrations,for all dinosaur lovers out there.

Would recommend to anybody with an interest in prehistoric animals. I didn't realise there have been so many categorised of late. This book covers everything from the great periods of the earth's lifespan to the palaeontologists as well as a thorough breakdown on the various dinosaurs and mammals that have roamed the earth. Brilliant!

Arrived on time and in good condition , cram packed with enlightening information on just about every dinosaur ever discovered, wonderfully pictures, information such as size , species , time Etc , there habitat , and feeding habits, a very comprensativeBook a must for eny one who likes there dinosaurs. Very happy with this purchase.

A fantastic book for dinosaur enthusiasts, my Grandson can real off the name of hundreds of dinosaurs and just loves reading facts about them. He was thrilled to get this encyclopaedia for Christmas. Thr knowledge this author has is second to non and the illiterations help to add interest too, a great book and as it is not too big a little lad can manage to carry it around as it would if larger become difficult yet still big enough to clearly read and see the pictures. A very pleasing book.

I bought this book to "replace" a much older different book which was very out of date. My edition says 2019 in the back, but I suspect it's a reprint of an older edition that had either not been updated or not very updated. I've seen reference to various titles which are basically the same book. However, I chose this book for its large number of entries, which run from the Devonian to the Quaternary (including early birds and mammals), with some introductions and around four illustrated entries per 2-page spread. The size of this one is roughly 6.6in x 8.5in and over an inch thick. The paper is good and it is heavy! As noticed by many buyers, some of the print is tiny. Something on 9pt spacing for the entries, and something on 8pt for the other material in the entries. Young people won't be worried, older folk like me with reading glasses may find it less tiring to have a magnifying glass on hand. The entries are basically chronological, so if your favourite has not come up, you just need patience (or some skipping). There is a lot of information in the short entries, and it does flag up species derived from very small deposits (a couple of teeth and a toe bone, maybe), and the many cases where the evolutionary relationships are very unclear, so it gives a fair idea of the field. The illustrations are good, largely clear given that they are quite small, and colourful I was wondering if this older edition had originally been laid out in a larger format, and I see that the new edition (2025, no longer claiming to be "complete", which is hardly possible, and with triceratops in the lead picture) is more like 8.5 x 11 inches, not 8x6, which should make for easier reading. If I want another one in 10 years' time maybe I will look this up again, meanwhile, my edition does what I wanted it for, and with new species popping out of the earth (and museum basements) every week, I am not too concerned if a few things are not up to date. The author flags up Piatnitzkysaurus as the "hardest to spell" (and backs this up by missing out a letter in the index). I prefer Rhamphorhynchus myself, but everyone has their favourite.

A very good general reference to dinosaurs, mammals, pterosaurs, and other extinct vertebrates. The pictures are attractive, although the colours are almost entirely imaginary. The general background information at the front is helpful.There is one irritating fault: the index doesn't indicate (with bold type) on which of several pages the main description is to be found.This is certainly not just a book for kids. Anyone interested in the history of life on Earth will find it worth while.

My 2yr old is obsessed with dinosaurs hes constantly wanting to watch, see, play, draw dinosaurs i bought him this to help him understand more has he grows its way to advanced for him right now so i will read it and show him has he learns. Its outstanding i cant beleive how much detail and imformation is in the book great buy. If your kids are dinosaur crazy get them this for you to teach them i cant wait to see his face when he turns a page.

This is such a good book, initially brought it to look through with my daughter as she's going through her dinosaur obsession stage but ive found myself reading through it a lot more. Its a great size and a nice alternative coffee table book. The pictures are stunning and its packed full of information, maps and time lines. Super book and really happy I brought it, I would recommend this for any dino fan.

If you love dinosaurs then this book is for you. Very well written with lots of pictures and facts on everything that lived millions of years ago. Ive just started reading this book and find it fabulous.

Ein taschenbuchgroßes Lexikon in englischer Sprache. Wer keine Probleme damit hat erhält eine umfangreiche Enzyklopädie (fast) sämtlicher bekannten und unbekannten tierischen Urzeitwesen (von den Uramphibien an) in kurzen, erklärenden Artikeln vorgestellt. Die Zeitspanne reicht von den ersten Landgängern aus dem Devon bis zu den Tieren der Tundren der letzten Eiszeit. Die Tiere sind in kurzen Kapiteln vorgestellt und ansehnlich gezeichnet. Eingeleitet werden die Vorstellungen von interessanten Hintergrundinfos über Klassifizierungen, Lebensräumen, paläontolog. Forschungen etc. Kurzum: Mir gefällt das Buch sehr gut! Noch perfekter wäre natürlich eine spätere Auflage in deutscher Sprachübersetzung.
