The Manthorpe Felt Lap Vent is a refurbishment product designed to increase the amount of ventilation into existing roof spaces. Usually fitted retrospectively to properties with additional loft insulation recently installed, however the Felt Lap Vent will help to combat the problem of condensation build up in any roof space with a lapped felt/membrane construction. The product has been designed as a remedial solution to help overcome the build-up of condensation in the roof space, however like all products that open the felt lap to provide ventilation it does not meet the code of practice BS 5534:2014+A2:2018 6.2.1.1. The specifier or user should be aware that the opening of felt laps on the roof may adversely affect the driving rain resistance of the slates, tiles or shingles, as well as increase the wind uplift forces acting on them.

Practical. Good solution to damp / mould. Care has to be taken on insertion as it is easy to tear the roof felt. I have installed around 50 in a large loft. It's now dry without mould (but I had to sort out a separate water ingress issue by chimney seals). Good part of solution to prevent dy rot.

We have always had a slightly damp attic and have had to throw some items out that had been stored there due to mould damage. However, we had a terrible problem with damp in our attic around Christmas 2020. The very cold weather combined with no wind, plus other issues in our attic that were limiting airflow, resulted in some terrible condensation that started to bead, drip and saturate our insulation. It got so bad that the joists were wet and damp started to show on the ceiling below as an ugly brown stain.We spent some time manually drying it out with towels and we had to dispose of the wet, sometimes mouldy, insulation, but we also bought these felt lap vents to help with the ventilation.We initially also used a desk fan to get the air moving around and to help evaporate the leftover damp, but since then the felt lap vents have done a brilliant job of keeping the attic dry and ventilated. Even in the latest cold snap, the attic hasn't shown the least bit of condensation and has an altogether drier feel to it.We initially installed 10 on our small attic, but bought another 10 for good measure. I can't recommend them enough for damp attics. Well worth the money.

Lot of Roofers saying how good that this product is So I am going to give it a go Very early days to say And very easy to install them But I can't see how it's going to not wok for me As the vents only let's air in and that a good thing

Loft in extension which was boarded and strengthened slowly developed condensation which has soaked the flooring and some items stored there, despite there being vents in the soffits. Installed six of these vents and the problem was solved after two weeks. Made use of the remaining four in my original loft space and there was an immediate improvement in air flow. Will keep monitoring the situation. They are a little flimsy but are easy to fit and need care to ensure you do not split the felt . You also need to ensure that the clips engage to prevent rolling and tearing the felt edge. An economical way to reduce potential significant problems.

These do the job but arent particularly high tech! I noticed some condensation in my attic so wanted some more ventilation to try and stop the condensation forming. These do the job cheaply enough and are very easy to fit. You just push them between the felt joins and they let in more air from the underside of your roof tiles. Some would not push in fully as they were catching something on my roof so only sat half way in - but still I could feel the air coming in so its ok. The ones I pushed all the way in and hooked onto the felt using the built in hooks only seemed to let air in through the middle as the felt closed at the sides - so could have done with being wider and maybe thicker. Time will tell but more air (even if only slightly more) is better than none so it all helps. Overall I would recommend them as a quick fit until I sort out additional soffit vents or a gable vent.
