Did you know that a sardine and a pilchard are the same thing? Sardina pilchardus is the species name and Cornish waters contain the northern end of the European stock.
Our Cornish Sardine fillets, which are full of natural Omega 3 oils, are all made from locally caught fish. Boats under 12m in length fish just off shore using a ring net. The fishery has full Marine Stewardship Council approval as being sustainable and well managed.
We send our fish to the world’s oldest, family owned sardine cannery, in Brittany. They take the time to give our Cornish Sardine fillets real taste by using traditional canning techniques.
Each of our varieties comes in a tin with a 19th century Newlyn School painting on the front, making them not only a tasty and healthy meal but also an attractive souvenir.
All our aluminium tins are produced using BPA-NI standards.
Perfect as a snack or used in a meal, whether hot or cold.

Keep a box of these in the larder. Days come when you think ‘okay . . . What the heck for lunch’. On with the toast and within minutes a dish that people in posh cafes in Portugal would love. Except they probably don’t know the joys of “herrings in”. That as in tomato sauce. This is a very high class product of a centuries old British dish that deserves to be used more often. The filleting, packing and the sauce is absolutely first class. Pull open a tin and enjoy.

Like other folk say, these sardines are not your average tinned fish.They are fresher, firmer, less mushy, less fishy (you know, the bit that repeats while you’re talking to someone? Doesn’t happen with these, no fish-breath either), the sauce is subtle and not overbearing nor greasy.Taste and texture bonuses aside, I love the sustainably-fished aspect, I love that they’re Cornish, I love that they’re canned in Brittany (we live on a small island between the two places) and I love that they are so obviously a more cared-for product than the competition. Consistently so.

for a start these are not sardines that i thought i was buying, these are the much cheaper and older fish, pilchards, but i did like the idea of supporting the cornish fishermen, but turns out they are tinned in france, and only says they were caught on a small cornish boat. makes me think, "what off the coast of france by any chance". Marketing is one thing, but misinformation just to sell stuff is another. this is the thing tho, when you start rebranding fish something they arent, because pilchards have a bad rap, it makes you wonder what else is marketing spin

Remember the film The Yangtse Incident, about HMS Amethyst? The wireless operator at his post for days, and the only thing that kept him going was ’errand sandwiches. But most importantly - was it plain ’errands or ’errands in tomato sauce? Only ’errands in. Then as they make their escape, Richard Todd on the bridge is offered a sandwich. “What are they?” “'Errands in, Sir.” “No thanks.” But after the nerve-wracking passage through the boom, he changes his mind: “I could match one of those sandwiches.”Well it’s like that for me with these pilchards in tomato sauce. I love ’em. Meaty, tasty, satisfying, enough for two sandwiches in each tin. I wouldn't 'ave 'em plain, Sir. And apparently they’re good for my cholesterol to boot.
