Better than all the name brands I've tried

That is how I learned of this item. I was taste and prep testing numerous emergency meals from different companies, and found Augason Farms was nearly always at the top in all aspects. One of the test items was a package of their pancake mix, and I was blown away. Initially unimpressed with receiving pancake mix as an emergency meal kit, I reluctantly gave it a try. I made pancakes and they were probably the best that I've ever made using a pre-made mix. I've tried everything from King Arthur, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima (will always be Aunt Jemima to me, even if they now go by Pearl...something), Pioneer, Krusteaz...you get the point. None hold a candle to the quality of what I sampled that day from, of all things, an emergency meal kit! I had to go on a quest and find if it could be purchased as a stand-alone item, and I was in luck...this item you are looking at!While pancakes are easy to make, even from scratch. There is just something special about the results you'll receive using this mix. Every time, it's absolute perfection. I'd like to cough that up to my cooking skills, but anyone that knows me would quickly call out that lie. Though, I guarantee that these were just dang good! Of course, they also mention waffles in their item name, and I had to pull out the waffle iron to try that.I had long ago tried making homemade waffles and was left unimpressed by everything I tried. Different mixes, different irons...you name it, I tried it; and subsequently settled on Eggos. I got rid of every iron but the Ninja brand one I felt was the easiest to use, and I threw that one into the back of the cabinet and thought it may never again see the light of day. However, having great results with pancakes, I had to spend 30 minutes digging that iron out of the back of the cabinet, and WooHoo!!!, was I glad that I did. Those first waffles came out as absolute perfection. I don't measure, so I simply put a cup of mix into a measuring cup, added water to the consistency that I prefer (a bit on the thin side), and added vegetable oil. After a quick stir, I simply poured into the pre-heated vertical Ninja waffle iron and let it do its thing. Using a doneness setting of 3, and letting the waffle cook for an extra 30-45 seconds, the first waffle came out perfectly done. Golden and crispy on the outside, and fluffy and tender on the inside--it's how I had always previously tried to achieve. And the taste matched the look. The waffles this mix produced were perfect. If you're wondering, the Ninja waffle iron now sits at the front of the cabinet with this mix always ready in the pantry to make a quick waffle. Seriously, this is the good stuff.
THE BEST PANCAKES YOU WILL EVER PUT IN YOUR MOUTH. FACT.
I never write reviews, although I've started reading them lately, especially when I'm looking at something expensive. This quality of this product compelled me, though. I bought it because if there's one thing I've learned in this pandemic it's that when you run out of bread ANY sandwich can be quickly deconstructed into an exotic pancake meal. Cheeseburger pancakes, ham and cheese pancakes, fried boloney, egg, and cheese pancakes, you can even do chili pancakes with taco toppings, really, if you're in quarantine the humble pancake becomes a virtual Swiss army knife of cuisine. The most versatile food there is. Probably the first food we invented. You don't make as many pancakes as I do without learning a thing or two about pancake mixes. In my time I've used everything from unbleached whole wheat/wholegrain to pastry flour. I've added pure gluten by the spoonful and used gluten free brown rice flour. Plain flour, self rising flour, every mix you can name and hundreds you can't.This one beats them all.It mixes quickly and smoothly. It starts off a little thinner than you planned and then the bubbles quickly rise and set. You don't even notice how much it's risen until you flip it. First you notice the golden brown from the side you just cooked and as you're admiring that, being reminded of Midas and James Bond villains, the second and final rise starts, and it's fast. You'll be impressed as it puffs up over the course of 20 or 30 seconds and that's when the smell really hits you. Your mouth will water and you'll gauge the batter you have left and try to estimate how much longer before you're finished cooking them. Then you'll look back at the pancake and your eyes will widen a bit at how much that flat little circle fluffed up.When you finally sit down with two or three piled up in front of you, buttered and besyruped, you'll be as excited as you were at the finish of your prom dance. You'll press your fork down into the stack to find an almost playful spongy resistance before yielding softly. You'll press your fork down again to separate the gobbet from the stack and again encounter that coy hesitancy before your fork secures the prize. You'll place it in your mouth, careful not to dribble any of the fine dark maple syrups Bolo sells, and slowly sink your teeth into it. You may feel a little shudder as your tongue explores the incredible taste and texture, your eyes may roll back a little as the memory of the fluffiness burns itself into your brain, but try to remain conscious because you've only started eating.Cheap, 30 year shelf life, and so good I'm going to make it my regular brand.

looooong term pantry, emergency prep, hefty container, great for stacking calories
I buy Augason products when they are on sale. Been doing this on and off for a few years now. Always been a bit of a "prepper", since I was a toddler it seems, haha (In my 40s now). I has served me well through power outages, sicknesses, unemployment, and even bigger stuff like the pandemic, and now... *vaguely gestures around* everything else that is going on. I've never been one to be without when anything has come up. I never did "emergency food" if only because I didnt have the budget. I would stick with typical foods and try to store them well. Well now I have a little more wiggle room in my budget, and with the on and off sales of long term storage (20+ years), I take advantage when I can. I remember buying some Augason eggs back in 2019 for $19. Today? $33-56 for same container, depending on the day.And so, I haven't opened this 3lbs 4 ounces can of pancake mix.. sorry. I dont intend to any time soon. I have quite a bit of bagged stuff to get through first, and I will likely continue to top off from stuff I get to store, then simply know I have this as back up to the back up. We dont eat a lot of pancakes, but the mixes are super versatile (can make sweet or savory, thin or thick, etc). But I wanted to shore up my options. Having some soups and such just adds flavor to other options used. I can add more veg, or a protein, or beans, or simply have some bread to dip into it. Or I can use as way to flavor something. I have a slew of reviews to write on various Augason products, and so they will all be pretty much the same: Super long term storage (25+ years), no matter what the weight, it will be stuffed into a #10 can (that reads, "number ten", not ten pound. I see that mistake in reviews). They keep sizes uniform. Next size up is a round bucket, next size up gets into the rectangular buckets. This is for storage that can be uniform, etc. So yes, you may buy a 7 ounce item that is volume wise that takes up a smidge of space, but it will be packed into a large #10 container. Just remember, all food products are sold based on weight, not volume anyway. All of my containers have been in perfect condition. Maybe one day soon I will try one container out and see how the product actually is.Everyone's SHTF scenario varies. It could be bad weather (tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, ice storms), could be illness, could be road trip gone wrong (you do keep supplies in your car too, right?!), could be unemployment, or power outage, or lack of transportation, or oven/fridge/other appliance break down, or bigger stuff like plagues, food shortages, supply chain issues, *cough WW3 cough*, etc. No matter the situation we all need some things to get by: we need is food, water, shelter, some hygeine and medical stuff, and so on. You dont have to stack "emergency supplies" but you do need to stack shelf stable food items. Buy a few extra things every single time you go to the store. If you get to a spot that you feel comfortable and have the budget, then grab the "emergency" items like Augason offers. I like adding it in and just forgetting about it.I give 5 stars because the cans always are in perfect condition, they have regular sales, are good about shipping items as soon as they can, have lots of items to choose from, and so far seem to be of good quality.
Not bad flavor, stays good for quite a while
Long Term Storage PancakesFlavor/Texture: The flavor is pretty good. If you mix it like normal pancake mix (in other words don't over-mix), they turn out just fine. Fairly tender, easy to eat and flavorful. I will say that the mix is a good bit sweeter than I'm used to. However, I typically use Kodiak pancake mix which is whole-grain with not much sugar. So... you may find the sweetness of this mix just right.Thickness: The thickness and rise of the pancakes are good. I made it according to the can's instructions with the exceptions that I used milk in place of water and substituted about 1/2 the milk or so w/ plain yogurt (not Greek yogurt). The pancakes came out almost too thick but cooked through easily and were not tough.Long Term Storage: The can says they are good for approximately 10 years if stored at 70 degrees or below. The cans arrived with either a September 2020 or October 2020 packing date. So they were very fresh. Some long term storage foods last 25 years plus. Prepared flour or mixes do not. Wheat certainly will but this is pretty easy to use. The mix is good enough to rotate into your diet and keep your storage items fresh. I personally would not want to eat a lot of this in my normal diet but that's simply because it's bleached flour, etc. But maybe a couple times a month or so in order to keep the product rotated? Yes, I would do that and some folks will probably find that they have to restrain themselves from eating it too often.Pricing: The product was on sale for about $7.50/can. To me this is a pretty good price for any product that's going to stay good for 10 years and is actually edible.
