The Bluegrass Album

Description:

2013 release, the first Bluegrass album from the Country music superstar. Jackson wrote eight songs for the album, which also includes other originals and a couple of well-known standards of the genre. The Bluegrass Album was produced by Keith Stegall and Jackson's nephew, Adam Wright. Jackson has openly expressed his desire to record a Bluegrass album for years. This spring, a group of some of the best players and singers in Bluegrass came together, emerging in a matter of days with the completed acoustic album. He enlisted Scott Coney (acoustic guitar), Sammy Shelor (banjo), Adam Steffey (mandolin), Tim Crouch (fiddle), Tim Dishman (bass), Rob Ickes (dobro) and Ronnie Bowman and Don Rigsby (vocals).

5.0 out of 5 stars Alan Jackson can do Bluegrass

B.J.P. · 15 November 2013

Great voice, impeccable traditional country background, but could Alan do Blue Grass music justice ? Yes he can, and yes he does !From the 6+ minutes of the opening track, a real car driving song, you are aware that Alan has pulled together some really good musicians for this album, and boy do they deliver. Alan can sing anything country, but he should be really proud of this album - one of his very best !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Charlie Ogburn

S.G. · 20 May 2014

My buddy Charlie Ogburn knows I love bluegrass and he sent me this and I am ever so grateful he did. Behind every modern C&W star lies either a frustrated lounge singer or a frustrated bluegrass fan and Alan is in the latter category. This is not the 1946 Bill Monroe band at its peak, no, but it is a fine, fine introduction to those straight country fans who wish to know where their music came from and are a might tired of all the electricity and who, like so many of us nowadays, thrill in the sound and seemingly inherent authenticity of acoustic mountain music. With many name pickers on board Mr. Jackson comes up with some fine story songs and the world is, for about fifty minutes, a much better place. C'mon, make the leap, listen to some real music for once. These folks can flat-out PLAY!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bluegrass Album.

Alan Jackson is a modern day legend, and has produced some great albums. To me,his style is somewhat reminiscent of the late Don Williams, laid back, but at the same time rich and powerful. As someone who enjoys Bluegrass music,as well as the more mainstream elements of Country Music, this is a great album, and I am glad I have it in my growing collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars alan's change of track

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album

B.F. · 28 June 2014

Alan Jackson delivers another fine album here, this time branching out into Bluegrass. Admittedly it takes a couple of listens but ultimately you really learn to appreciate the excellent musicians here and it all goes together really, really well. If you like Alan Jackson you won't be disappointed.

...anzi acquistatelo!

What is Bluegrass?

D.B. · 28 October 2013

I read several of the lower ratings, and the most common theme seems to be 'this isn't bluegrass' or 'Alan Jackson is not a bluegrass singer'. I will not be so high-handed as to say what is and what is not bluegrass, but after listening to this CD - and thoroughly enjoying it - I found such reviews to be pretentious, misguided, and, well...irritating.All bluegrass does not fit into a single mold and it does not all have to sound like Ricky Skaggs, or like Bill Monroe from the 1940's (although I love that music too). I am hearing master musicians play acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, dobro, and I am hearing some harmonious singing. These people that say this isn't bluegrass are simply wrong and needlessly judgmental. Regarding Alan Jackson's voice, maybe it does not have that pure high lonesome sound, but no less so than Tony Rice or Lester Flatt (as two examples), and do you want to discount their picking & singing as not bluegrass? If you do not like Alan Jackson's singing voice, then maybe you should stay away, but I think it is pompous to say he cannot sing bluegrass just because he does not hit any soprano notes. I believe that there are some bluegrass snobs who have a problem with a "country" singer releasing a bluegrass album, but this is every bit bluegrass as many of the traditional bluegrass bands releasing music on traditional bluegrass labels.I don't listen to much "country" music coming out of Nashville these days, but Alan Jackson is one performer that I do enjoy. I have always loved bluegrass and old-time country, so this CD seemed like it was worth a shot. I am glad I took the shot, because this is terrific music. It is a good value as well with 14 tracks and over an hour of playing time. Enough said.

du très bon bluegrass

f. · 21 February 2015
