This 2.2L Andrew James ice maker has been fantastic during the holidays, especially with a couple of heatwaves. It produces plenty of ice quickly, which has been a real bonus for keeping drinks cold.The best part is that my SEN daughter, who usually does not drink much, loves the ice cubes and is always happy to suck on them. It has been a simple but effective way to keep her hydrated when she will not touch a beaker. It is worth noting that it is a bit noisy due to the fan, and it generates a fair amount of heat, so be prepared for that. Even so, it has been worth every penny.

My wife used to spend a fortune on ice, but now we’re the proud owners of this ice maker. It will pay for itself in no time at all, fill the tank and you get a large bag of ice. I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone and it’s so simple to use.

This ice maker was originally reviewed as follows, labelled 'Mixed Feelings' and with two stars:"I’ve had Andrew James stuff before; the last one was a portable induction hob that I bought from them a couple of years ago: well made, seems like decent materials. Does the job okay and certainly no reason for complaint. However I’d say there were these things to consider before you think about playing this much for the ice maker...It’s noisy. Very noisy. I was surprised at what a mechanical process the icemaking is, so every stage creates its own noise and you don’t get much break from the row it makes. It clatters and crashes its way through the process and, while I can see why it makes the noise that it does, it’s crashing and banging that I could do without!I also suspect that it is not very power efficient. I haven’t attached a power meter to it yet but I would be interested to do so and I’m pretty sure it’s going to show a rather high level of consumption.I also think it might be a good idea to have included what I guess you to call a ‘snooze’ function, so the making process can be paused, and the ice already made can just be preserved at the current temperature.Lastly, it appears that you can’t do anything to stop the ice in the basket all sticking together, which is a real pain in the neck.Sorry, Andrew James, but this was not a great purchase."Now, I'm adding the following:This really is not good. There is a base plate fixed to the bottom of the machine which carries large, cross-head screws (which appear to hold the whole thing together). At least one of these ugly fixing screws protrudes so far outwards from the body of the machine, and has such worn and abrasive heads, that they have caused significant damage to the kitchen work surface that it sits on. Worse still, whilst the supplier has agreed to accept it as a refund/return, I apparently have to pay the cost of return postage on this very heavy device myself, and I'm given no information about either how I reclaim that cost or how I get my worktop repaired.Looks like I'm going to have to get snotty with Bolo before I'll make any progress...I'd say avoid this purchase on all counts.

Very cool ice maker, I am really impressed.1. Give the tank / unit a clean / rinse.2. Leave the unit to stand for 2 hours when opened to let the refrigerant to settle3. Fill the water tank4. Turn the machine on and set to the ice cube size you want, I prefer large5. The machine will start to make ice cubes after about 7 minutes (the first ones will be a bit watery as the machine cools down)6. Leave the machine to make ice cubes until the tray is full7. Use the ice cubes or put them in a tub for the freezer (Ice use a tray full for keeping my camel back water cool (and my back)8. Turn the machine off and drain excess waterThis is far easier than filling ice cube trays and emptying out!

I’ve only had it for less than 24 hrs but, follow the settle down instructions - let it sit before use. I left mine overnight.I have to say - I’m well chuffed. It does start off with some pretty feeble ice cubes even on the larger setting but true to form after about the 3rd cycle they get quite chunky and long lasting too. You can hear it running but it’s not an issue, the dog lets me know when the ice drops into the tray.Make sure you follow the instructions and you’ll be as happy as I am. I’ve worked in appliance sales for over 25 years and following the manufacturer instructions does deliver the best performance results.I do hope it’s not one of those things that goes wrong next year once the usage goes back up next spring. It does feel pretty solid and well made so I don’t anticipate any issues going forward.Well happy and happy to recommend too.
