Review:

5.0 out of 5 stars New life to old classics in a classy country album.

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I put of buying this album for many years because so many of the songs are covers and have been done so many times. Did I really want to hear more versions of the same songs? Could covers be better than the originals? I finally give it a go and wished I had not waited so long. Paul Franklin and Vince Gill are 2 hugely talented artists who have crafted a pure country album of class and quality. They give new life to old Bakersfield classics written by the likes of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Tommy Collins. This is a traditional country album of real class. Covers yes....... it when does this well, they deserve to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hoping there's more where this came from....

R. · 27 February 2017

I'm a novice here. Forty-five years of jazz and classical, then I happen upon the Time Jumpers and my whole musical world changes almost overnight! I bought this as my third country album because I loved Vince and Paul on the TJ albums. 'Bakersfield' is terrific. Wonderful pedal steel and Telecaster sounds, great rhythm section. I don't suppose I should restrict myself to a diet of just Vince and co, so I'll be checking what the other reviewers have recommended, but I'm enjoying the whole experience enormously.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAMPLE TRACKS ON HERE DON'T DO IT JYSTICE

A.C. · 4 January 2014

What ever Vince and Paul did on this album there were bound to be critics i was one of them until I got the CD's it is brilliant. A master class in simple pedal steel fills, we don't need 90 mile an hour speed picking from Paul. The big difference from the original tracks is Paul knows when to play and when to shut up.Mooney never stop playing. Considering the crap that is coming out of Nashville now this is the real deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fresh modern classic Country Music!

This CD is brilliant! I bought it as a Christmas present for my mum who is 65 yrs old , she loves it! and my 1 yr old nephew loves it too! He dances around to it track 2 is his all time favorite! The music is upbeat with some great electric guitar flowing through to some good old fashioned ballads, probably one of the best country albums |I have ever bought! Buy it! you will not be disappointed if you are a country music fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album - a real tribute to Hagg and Buck

K.R. · 6 September 2013

These aren't just 'cover copies', they are brilliant interpretations of the Bakersfield sound. Vince and Paul complement one another perfectly on this album. It's clear that Buck and Hagg have had a colossal influence on them, even thought their sound is so different. (And if you're ever in Nashville on a Monday night, be sure to get down to 3rd and Lindsley, and hear Paul and Vince at their laid-back best with all the rest of the Timejumpers - (PS, Get well soon, Dawn)

4.0 out of 5 stars Just like a gig

A.O. · 28 September 2013

I've never bought a Vince Gill album before but saw a good review and had a preview listen. With pedal steel guitar man Paul Franklin getting equal billing this is a straight rendering of a batch of old country songs. Vince is in fine voice and Paul's steel guitar brings out the country flavour. The recording quality is excellent and it's impossible to tell whether it was knocked off in one take or took ages to record. One can imagine going into a western bar and hearing this great singer and band in the corner. It doesn't take any listening effort. There are no tricks or recording gimmicks. This is just a bunch of musicians having a great time and the end result is surprisingly uplifting. Well worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic

I had high expectations because it was Vince Gill and Paul Franklin and was not disappointed.I love Merle Haggard he's my number one and also Buck's songs and important era of country music. these recordingsare a joy to listen to and remind me why I love country so much. These are simple arrangements which still showcase Vince and Paul's ability but let the song tell it's story. I just love it and am so pleased I bought it.

I've been a big fan of everything Vince Gill does since the mid eighties, so I am biased, but although I am a bit selective of "old" country ... Vince and Paul picked two fabulous west coast icons to follow up on for this album, and boy do they do it justice !! ..... every song is a gem, and the singing and picking is without doubt world class ... absolutely brilliant in every respect .... highly recommended.

Ein Wunder - so ein schönes Album

P. · 17 April 2014

A Masterpiece!

J.C. · 22 May 2022

Vince Gill has done such justice to these great songs, and in my opinion, they sound better than the original artist. Anyone who likes country, you will love this one. He brings the older songs to a higher level that only Vince could do.Without a doubt, this cd is well worth the money spent!

Great tribute to Merle Haggard & Buck Owen’s.

B.V. · 2 May 2025

Love every song on this CD; it’s truly Country Music!

Una rara joya

N.A.T. · 2 August 2015
