These recordings feature a who's who of musicians such as Tom Scott, George Benson, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Hubert Laws, Ron Carter and Ernie Watts. 'Bundle Of Joy' and 'Super Blue' made the US Top 200 albums. Hubbard had a long and distinguished career which wound down in the 1990s. He died in 2008. Digitally remastered and slipcased with extensive new liner notes. This title is new to the BGO catalogue.

Finalmente, dopo tanto tempo, sono riuscito ad avere in formato CD questi album che il grande Freddie Hubbard incise per la Columbia negli anni '70.Nonostante i puristi del jazz abbiano sempre considerato queste incisioni (per altro molto belle) come una rovina per la reputazione del musicista, devo invece dire che a me sono sempre piaciute moltissimo. Freddie ha dimostrato, come solo un grande strumentista sa fare, che poteva passare tranquillamente da un genere ad un altro senza sminuire in alcun modo né il suo squisito gusto per l'improvvisazione, né la sua tecnica sfavillante.Tutti gli album incisi per la Columbia sono la dimostrazione lampante che non solo Freddie aveva le idee chiare (al suo fianco musicisti del calibro di Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, ecc.), ma che era addirittura in anticipo sui tempi: il misto tra funk e fusion che si ascolta in questi dischi, infatti, suona ancora oggi tremendamente attuale, sia come ritmica che come arrangiamenti, stesura dei temi solistici ed orchestrazioni.Veramente un periodo molto notevole del grande artista. Straconsigliato a tutti gli amanti del genere (e non solo)!
Trois pour le prix de deux
Ces trois albums de la fin des années 70 sont plutot une bonne affaire. Ce n'est pourtant pas la meilleure période pour Freddie Hubbard oscillant entre le disco, le funk et un jazz plus classique mais il y a des toujours des fulgurances de grande qualité. Il convient de noter la très bonne remasterisation.Bund of Joy est l'album le plus faible avec trop d'arrangement de cordes.Super blue par contre est excellent avec des accompagnateurs comme Ron Carter Jack DeJohnette Joe Henderson et Hubert Laws.The Love Connection se situe entre les deux avec des arrangement de Claus Ogerman et des morceaux plus calmes .

A worthwhile Investment
I have been into Jazz for years. Loved Freddie Hubbard on CTI label for which he is known. This was a commercial period on a different label. Nevertheless, I enjoyed his playing. I ordered as a pre-order since I had worn out my lps. Remember, there are 3 lps on 2 CDs. Despite the "commercialization, it is a period many artists succumb to for their contract or other reason. If you are a purist, you probably will not like this. If you are a die-hard fan, you need it to see a phase he went through for whatever reason. Please read reviews of those better writers & reviewers than I am. Thank You
Freddie Hubbard’s sound is unforgettable
Loved this CD. I’ve been a fan of Freddie Hubbard for many years, going all the way back to the early 1970s. Although I have a lot of his vinyl records, having his CDs as backup is a joy. His sound is classic which no one can duplicate.
