I brought The Commercial Law Handbook in November last year and I must say that it has been very useful. I really liked how it was set out, how key commercial words were explained and how there was general advice about becoming a commercial lawyer that I found really insightful. It was easy to navigate and principles were explained very clearly. I have improved my Commercial knowledge a lot since reading it.The book provides a comprehensive and lucid exploration of commercial law, spanning from practice areas to the fundamental principles underlying seat selections and essential aspects of commercial awareness.

The book offers a clear and in-depth view of commercial law. From practice areas to the basics of why you could do particular seats and basic commercial awareness. I have been offered a training contract and vacation scheme both at magic circle firms. Before each interview, I looked into this book from cover to cover. It's brief and yet impactful. In every interview, I was extremely fluent and able to express even complex ideas succinctly. If you combine this, with the interview and TC handbooks, it's hard to go wrong.Jake himself is exceptional as a professional. He has seen it all first hand and speaks with a certain exposure you won't get anywhere. The book reflects as much. A worthy and necessary purchase if you are intent on a career in commercial law.

Something I’m always curious about is something that will put me ahead of the curve and this book is it!The depth that the handbook goes into, in an accessible and understandable manner is definitely something that will help you get ahead of the curve in terms of understanding this industry that so many people (including me previously), seem to have such a surface level understanding of.Not only does the book contain insights from the author himself, it contains insights from a career coach, Hannah Salton and it’s very nice to use it in conjunction with his Facebook platforms and web resources.I’d really recommend picking up a copy because I definitely think it’ll help me even when I’m about to undertake a TC

This handbook is a very useful guide for law firm interviews. In particular for firms such as Linklaters, who focus very highly on technical commercial knowledge. Jake Schogger is the Lionel Messi of the young legal market. He is the type of guy who partners ask to check over their work. The type of guy who is the cleverest person in every room he enters. This book is ultimately a representation of a skilled lawyer's ability to condense the most vital commercial aspects of law into a format that can be understood with ease.Note: Please expand on what you are taught and explore in more detail. This allows for a well rounded understanding. This book is the foundation of your commercial awareness, but ultimately the walls and roof will come from your further reading.

This book is an invaluable tool for any aspiring solicitor. The clear, concise and well-structured approach taken by the author cuts through the complexities of commercial law, allowing the reader to easily digest and understand difficult concepts.I read this book before each interview and referred to it often during a vacation scheme, where I was able to impress with my knowledge. Ultimately, I was able to secure a training contract at one of the magic circle law firms - an achievement I attribute, in no small part, to this handbook!

I don't normally post reviews, but this warrants one.This is an excellent, brief guide which actually provides a clear insight into the kind of work you could expect to do at a commercial law firm. Not only this, it is useful for a general understanding of business.I am a future trainee at a MC firm. While this handbook didn't secure me the job, it helped me get into the mindset of commercial law and apply business/legal terms confidently.
