The Panhard EBR was a French armoured car produced from 1950to 1960. It is estimated that total production of the was1200 units. The armoured car was designed at the Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux in 1946 to meet a requirement for an air-portable vehicle to support paratroopers, the first prototype ran from 1948. The uncommon two-part 'oscillating' turret is set to the rear of the vehicle and holds the commander and gunner. The original 75 mm gun, modelled on the German L/71 Panther gun, and tyres were bullet-proof .

The Panhard EBR was one of the most radical armoured car designs ever, with its retractable steel off-road wheels, horizontally-opposed engine, duplicate front & back driving positions and oscillating turret, so not surprisingly it found few takers and saw only brief service with the French Army in Algeria and the Portuguese in Angola. It's also about the last thing I ever expected to see in injection-moulded plastic, so Hobby Boss are to be congratulated on taking a chance on such a left-field subject. As with all their kits, it's a perfect build straight from the box, with crisply moulded parts, photo-etch details and vinyl tyres, although there are already resin upgrade sets available for those who feel the need. Whilst Tamiya haven't released a new kit in years and Dragon are stuck churning out ever more Panzer IV variants, firms like Hobby Boss, Trumpeter and Bronco are really making the running on interesting kits, so stop building all that boring old German armour and do something a little more unusual instead !

This is a very nice kit of an obscure type of military vehicle. If you are a fan of early cold war French military vehicles, this kit is a must for your collection. It's standard HobbyBoss/Trumpeter quality which doesn't disappoint.
