I have an MG TF and previously owned a Landrover Freelander, both of which are powered by the notorious K-series engine, with its known CHG failure issues. It is therefore paramount to ensure that you check the coolant levels on a regular basis: sadly after two years the Freelander succumbed, but with the use of k-seal and regular top ups of anti-freeze I coaxed that vehicle along until it finally gave up the ghost (£1000 purchase off ebay). In a similar way, each time that I open the boot on my MG, I can see the coolant expansion tank and should there be any reduction in the level, I can top up the system.A lot of modern cars use ethylene glycol formula antifreeze which is Organic Acid Technology (OAT)compliant; whatever that is! It was and is recommended by Landrover/Rover for their cars and therefore I sought this item out at Halfords and the like. Bolo offered the product at a far better price and I have purchased three litres over the past 2 and a half years, all thankfully went into the Freelander, whilst the MG expansion tank, apart from a minor top up when I bought it, remains full. I keep a full bottle in the boot along with a litre of water, just in case the fluid level drops unexpectedly and I can carry out some immediate first aid: for anyone who has any knowledge of the k-series engine, they will know it is easy to be wise after the event!One last thing, as I know nothing at all about antifreeze, but I am price conscious therefore purchasing the concentrated version from Bolo in particular and mixing it yourself, is 25% cheaper than buying the ready mixed variety and therefore represents far better value.

My motor scooter calls for an Ethylene Glycol based OAT Antifreeze engine coolant to be used. This Comma fits the bill perfectly and matches the same type of coolant already in my bike. It has no silicates, borax, phosphates, nitrites or other nasty things in it. It lubricates the water pump efficiently. It has considerable anti-corrosion protection for engines with cast iron cylinders. If used in a bike with cast iron cylinders do not let it stay in the engine for longer than two years as the OAT additives will have used themselves up fighting the corrosion around the cast iron component of your engine. It then starts to become acidic and actually eat your engine....like any other engine coolant will do if left in for too long. So although it should be ok for all alloy engines to go 5 years in between changing the coolant (check your manual), cast iron in your engine usually means change it every two years or thereabouts. Remember not to mix this stuff with anything other than OAT type of coolants if just topping up. If mixed with IAT or SOAT and other types it will re-act with the other coolant over time and turn to a gel like substance blocking your radiator and engine pipes.
