5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past
The media could not be loaded. I used to own the original many years ago as my main hill walking watch... And I loved it! So seeing this was an immediate buy for me, especially as it was under £100.Well, it arrived and I must admit I was a bit concerned to see it was packaged in a thin brown paper bag with little to no protection for the watch box itself (come on Bolo, a protective box or thick padded bag should be a minimum for items like this!).Anyway, upon taking the box out of the bag the lid of the box immediately fell off... No retaining tabs.... But the watch inside looked to be undamaged and the watch was secured in place with a plastic tie. Then I noticed the TIMEX logo on the front of the watch was upside down when compared to the label and text on the back of the box when the lid was replaced. And yes, it can only be fitted one way. (See video clip) and I'm crossing my fingers and putting this down to Timex and a lack of quality control! Was this a fake/copy watch? I really did have my doubts about it, but after a couple of days, I snipped the plastic tie, took it out of its box and set the watch up.Well, I happy to report, the watch keeps excellent time and is just as good as I remembered my original watch to be.... The strap is seriously stiff and a pain to fasten, but once on the wrist, the watch is nice and comfortable. The hands and compass hand can be a little difficult to see when you first use the watch due to the colour of the background. However, once you get used to it, they are no longer an issue (well, not to me anyway). Just make sure you give yourself a day or two to settle in with the watch face and you'll be fine. The indigo backlight is brilliant and the look of the watch when on your wrist is something else... It looks awesome.Compass and tide features work well, though they do require a fair bit of setting up.A small (paper sheet) user manual is in box... It's hidden inside the cardboard watch stand itself, so don't throw the stand away before taking the manual out.If it's not there and as some have said, it can easily be downloaded from the Timex website. Some users have also said the compass hand is not set at the 12.00 and looks odd. Well, neither was mine.... Soooo, easy instructions below :o)To move and set the compass hand:Pull out the center crown to the last click.Push either of the buttons above or below the crownThis will move the compass hand very slowly one step at a time in either direction.Once you are happy with the placement of the compass hand push the crown button back into placeNow, I found this had to be done numerous times as the compass hand tended to drift slightly after a while... But now it's held steady at 12.00 for days.Overall and inspite my initial concerns, I'm really happy with this watch, and if it lasts as long as the original, I know I'll be wearing it for years to come.If chunky outdoor or just large-ish and smart watches are your thing, then I highly recommend you give this watch a go.... You'll be happy you did.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent watch!
Gorgeous watch! I absolutely love it—best buy in years. It's a good size and comfortable on the wrist. However, it's complicated to set; there are plenty of videos available on the internet, but it’s worth every penny. The build quality is excellent too.
4.0 out of 5 stars Unique look, fun, but uncomfortable wrist band.
This Timex watch has a really cool look, like a vintage instrument of sort (Reminds me of the old altimeter in a leather etuí we used as geography students in the 80's). My wife calls it my "National Geographic watch".In addition to the nice looks it also seems to work well. It has a quality feel to it. I read that some has had problems with things falling off, but it has not happend to me). I have a wrist of about 19cm in circumference, and the watch does not look too large on me. I have two rather standard sport diving watches and both feel heavier than this. So far, the compass works very well. The thermometer is, of course, measuring the arm temperature when on the wrist, and the watch must be taken off for it to work properly. Then it seems to be fairly correct. I have no use for the high/low tide indicator. The indiglo light illuminates the whole dial (except the centigrade scale of some reason), which makes it very easy to read at night (In fact, almost easier than in daylight. In daylight I often confuse the minute hand with the rear end of the compass needle)All in all, I like it a lot. However, there are some minuses:The leather wrist band is very bulky and uncomfortable. I soon bought a NATO nylon band in a matching color to the dial and, after some minor modifications with a soldering iron (melting insets in the nylon band) I made it to fit the watch very nicely. Now it feels really light and comfortable to wear, and truly give a "safari" or "explorer" feel to it.The indiglo-button is located directly towards the hand. Every time I flip up my wrist a little I mange to push the button. It will drain the battery pretty soon I fear. Both my diving watches have the buttons so arranged that no button points directly towards the hand, much smarter. The hands, especially the minute hand, could have had a little bit wider and more contrasting borders. They are now difficult to detect when in a hurry. Sad on a watch with such a wide dial. The digits and text giving the temperature etc on the dial are of a too small font size. Very hard to read even for me that have not yet got the need to wear reading glasses when reading a regular book, but for seeing these digits I have to wear glasses.A beautifull watch with unique look that certainly draw attention without being especially large or heavy. I hope Timex can fix the above listed issues for a future version.
1.0 out of 5 stars ⭐☆☆☆☆ Came defective, can't keep time correct, watchface too busy
Beautiful looking watch, I ordered it despite reading many reviews on bad quality.Turns out to be a mistake, it comes in a very humble package with no protection. Some of the areas on their photos that look black are actually silver, for my taste the watch looks too "busy" because the fourth hand really blends in with watch hands and it is not that easy to have a glance and see what time it is.The temperature meter is a joke, I am not sure what I expected but you have to take it off hand for a few minutes to show something close to ambient temperature, while wearing it it shows a blend of ambient and body temperature, around 35c.Compass seemed fine, although I haven't checked it against a real one.1 star for all that, and another 1 star for Bolo return experience from Ireland. Zero help in getting this defective watch back to them while they keep my money.
TIMEX Tide Temp Compass watch
Ordered the watch and it came in a secure package, without any damage. The product it self is really amazing to have if you are a watch enthusiast.Th watch functions are also very cool, Tide • Temp • Compass. Ready for exploring the outdoors. This is one of my top watches I own this year, highly recommended.
Great watch at a very good price
I loved the watch considering it looks super cool with high tech super busy dial. Indiglo night light looks very nice at night. The watch gives the information accurately. Its just sad that we don't have sea in Riyadh otherwise I'd have used the tide functionality as well. I bought the watch for SR 489 which I believe is a very reasonable price for such a watch. The dial is huge so ensure you have a wrist broad enough to carry this watch. The silicone strap is very comfortable to wear.
schön, schöner, T I M E X
Ottimo.
Bello, all'inizio ci si confonde con le lancette ma solo all'inizio. Illuminazione notturna super. Buon cinturino effetto scamosciato. Temperatura da misurare, chiaramente, con orologio tolto dal polso.Molto soddisfatto.
Great watch!
Like this watch a lot! Fit and function are great! I had 3 requirements for a watch. 1) Indiglo. I hate the wimpy little light you get if there is no Indiglo and luminous hands are not always enough. I must have gotten a 2nd gen because the Indiglo on mine is bright and illuminates a large enough area that it works fantastically. Even in the dim light but not full dark that makes it hard for me to see things like that. Having said that, the luminous paint on the watch hands is bright and lasts a long time on this watch! 2) Analog. I feel like a digital watch is something I wore as a kid, and now that I've grown up, it looks silly IMO. 3) The band could not be leather ( Starts to stink after a while) nor could it be metal links ( The wife complains about it getting caught in her hair) and while this is a little softer than I expected, and it feels a little unusual, it is very comfortable. The Compass works well, the Thermometer reads close enough after you have taken it off your wrist for a while, that I can hang it up at night when camping and get a good idea of how hot/cold it is. I have not run to the beach enough to test the accuracy of the Tide indicator, but I imagine that will be close enough as well. The watch looks good, tells time, is visible when I want it to be, is comfortable to have on, and even has a few doo-hickies on it that are cool.
