Fabulous cases which saves a great deal of time when making individual tarts and quiches. Only one case slightly damaged, but still usable and the others I have transferred to airtight tins.

I bought these pastry cases to make quiches for a friend's anniversary party. I checked the top layer when the package arrived and they looked okay. However, I have just started to make the quiche's (the party is tonight!!) and find that the whole of the bottom layer, ie. 50% of the pastry cases, are completely smashed to smithereens and totally unusable. Nightmare!! Now I will have to go to expense of finding some others in my local shops. Strongly suggest you check every pastry case when they arrive, if you do order them, and give yourself time to send the whole lot back!

Bought these quiche cases numerous times and usually have one or two broken but this time almost the whole top layer was broken along with the film on the box

We were having a tea party for 30 and I thought they would be an easy way to make savoury tarts. I was surprised that with so many in the box there was no separate wrapping inside to keep the remaining cases fresh. The use by date was many months away. However they must somehow be ok. I had a trial and filled and baked some with savoury filling. They were nice but the pastry was too hard, crispy, for my taste. My family thought they were great. Next day I reheated a few in the oven wrapped in foil and they were perfect as the pastry had softened a little. So I filled and cooked 30 cases with onion, cream and eggs, the evening before the party. On the day I placed them on baking trays, covered with foil and warmed them. They were a great success. I really will find these useful especially as the evenings draw in and for the Christmas season. Also great for vegetarian friends to make a quick and easy alternative item when meat is served to other guests. The cases don't taste buttery but manage to be neutral so I think they would be ok for mini bakewell tarts or other sweet filling. I'd like to buy them in fewer quantities, but would buy them again.

The pastry is very nice with good texture and consistency. They even kept quite well for a week or so in a cool place. However, if my experience is anything to go by you should allow for approximately 20% loss for tartlets damaged in transit. The promised next day delivery was not met by HDNL - even though it went out in the van it was returned to depot and delivered the following day for no given reason. It was then left in the front garden at 8.43pm with no attempt to ring the doorbell even though there was someone at home downstairs. Those are the only reasons this doesn't get 5 stars.
