I thoroughly recommend the company in general and Phil for talking me through the process on the phone and offering a site visit.Great guys who provide an excellent and genuine customer service.I think perhaps my scenario (cold unheated garden room with very high humidity) is not a common one so perhaps no one foresaw that these conditions may be a stumbling block to the effectiveness of the unit. Also, although it's fairly quiet, I wouldn't call it silent and I still need to switch it off when recording with mics as they pick up the gentle whirring in the background.Certainly quiet enough for a bedroom I'd say, just not when working with microphones (another uncommon scenario no doubt...!)I tried a standard dehumidifier, didn't help a great deal, however after getting hold of a powerful portable aircon/dehumidifier which brought it down to 45% in no time, this device has managed to keep it at this level with no issues. So in a nutshell, it works great but if you have very high humidity, it may need a helping hand to get it in the right ballpark before it performs at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars The solution to a damp free bathroom

    D.R. · 20 May 2015

We've had this installed in the bathroom of a Victorian terraced house and it has definitely reduced the damp level in the room and surrounds to an acceptable level. Its constant low level fan is noticeable when you're in the room but not outside the room, nor have we noticed any sound transmitted through the wall. The boost is a bit noisier than some bathroom fans but is about average. There is a way to reduce the speeds and noise a bit by switching fuse position in the control unit. When the boost is on during a shower you notice the room feels a lot less damp straight away. The air being returned into the room is a little colder than that in the room, slightly more noticeable in the winter as the bigger temperature difference makes it slightly less efficient. So best not to point this at where you're showering. The control unit / humidistat is big and the whole thing is a bit chunky and basic looking, but a fine price to pay for no damp.We didn't fit it ourselves but the builder did mention that it's a 6 inch hole needed through the wall, which they had to hire a drill for as normally vents are 4 inches. The unit did fit in the wall of our old house, which is a double brick wall without a cavity.

My primary goal was to have ventilation in the small room that can bring fresh air from outside and remove stalle air from iinside. I measure co2 levels inside and it seams it does very litle to make any diference to co2 levels. If I use normal pasive ventilation in this room I'm reaching around 2000 ppm co2. And using this kair ventilation at night time on slow speed it's staying at aruond 1700 ppm co2. In this room is just one child sleeping. I was expecting to reatch co2 around 1000 ppm mark. So my guess is that same air that is brought in is going back out. When i measured co2 directly at inlet i measured around 700 ppm. But in the room its always double that. Unless room is empty for 4 hours then it goes to 700 ppm mark. But i can achieve same thing with passive ventilation. So if its not mixing air in and from the room well then its not good ventilation. Air in and air out is to close to each other and it backfire. Just runing in small loop. If I knew this before I wouldn't buy it.

We initially had damp issues in 2 upstairs bedrooms. We had a damp expert come out and survey our house and there was a couple of issues.1. Our loft insulation wasn't thick enough AND wasn't spread out far enough so the walls were freezing cold in winter therefore helping the damp. We got this sorted with a few Wickes trips and help from my boyfriends dad.2. We needed air vents in those 2 bedrooms to promote air flow. Nothing fancy, just a plain, non-electric vent. We sorted that for around about £100 - £1503. He said our kitchen oven good extractor fan was more for show rather than efficiency, and said that's the case with most of them. When cooking a lot of wet heat and moisture come about and can go through the whole house, so we now always cook with the kitchen door closed and kitchen window open, still have the oven good extractor on when boiling and frying anything on the hob, and have this running in the background 24/7.You can set it to different humidities so that it's not on the high setting all the time (it's a little noisier than the general setting but it's not loud, you can hear but you just get used to it).Either way, after all 3 steps, we no longer have damp or little blobs of mould!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch. Just don't use solvent glue on the outer cowl.

What a great unit. Fitting it was slightly tricky, but once done it really is superb. The air coming in is slightly cooler than that of the room, but I can't feel any draft underneath, nor does the room get noticeably colder. It also works just fine in very windy conditions, which was a major argument made against these units. My only gripe is the size of the humidistat box, which is rather large and heavy, but it is very worthwhile. Run a bath for 10 seconds and it detects the humidity and goes onto boost.Just great. Also everything was top quality.ONE WORD OF WARNING: The pipes/outer cowling will not glue using solvent glue, which is what the instruction manual called for. - they just don't melt the way they should. I had to turn to Araldite to get the outer cowl to stay in.
