Queen from B4 to E7, checkmate. While normally the game would be finished here with little fanfare, BATTLE VS. CHESS takes the moment of victory a step further. The queen gracefully glides across the game board towards the King, a victorious smirk adorning her face. As she approaches the King’s square her hands begin to faintly glow then suddenly plumes of fire spring forth from her outstretched hands and engulf the King leaving nothing more than a pile of ashes on the square formerly occupied by one of the competing rulers of the checkered kingdom. Now that’s checkmate!
BATTLE VS. CHESS is based on the simple yet ingenious concept of creating a fusion between professional chess software and upbeat, combat oriented game mechanics, complete with richly animated game pieces. At the outset of a match things seem quite basic: a 3D game board pits two opponents against each other in a seemingly ordinary game of chess. The game board itself is set in one of six available environments, each with its own unique landscape and presentation features. Traditionally recognized game pieces have been given a facelift as hulking stone golems and beastly chimaeras take the place of the typical rook and knight pieces respectively. The groundbreaking introduction of vivid 3D conflict animations and optional action integration elements provide a very special breath of fresh air to the classic game of chess. Employing ChessBase’s world renowned Fritz! chess algorithm software, even the most experienced chess experts will be presented with a daunting challenge.

I have often wondered about whether a software programme that was able to deal with chess,combined with good graphics would be able to deliver and still be affordable.Well, here we have the answer. Yes, it's do-able.I like chess,but sometimes,you know, it's a bit samey.Along comes this software, and for those times when you want something a bit different, BAM BAM GRAPHICS.Also, a skilful opponent.I really like it,at this price you cannot go wrong, any niggles are not worth mentioning.Extremely good value for money

I had no problem installing but my ageing i5 laptop tended to overheat while playing. The game itself is quite colourful and animated, adding a different dimension to the game of chess. However, to be honest if you're a serious chess player this is no more than a novelty that, for me, was actually more of a distraction while playing. It had limited viewing angles and the pieces often confused me knowing which piece was which. In the end I uninstalled this and resorted to playing with a 'normal', classical chess style software. That way I was able to focus on the game and not the cartoon distractions. I can understand how this could appeal to younger users, but it's not for me.

I am a huge Chess fan. I play at least one game of Chess a day. I collect Chess sets. I find it a fantastic game for focusing the mind and a great game of attacking, defending, strategising and planning.While I do collect Chess sets, when it comes to the game itself, particlary on a computer, flashy gimiky pieces which round around and do crazy stunts as they move and attack are good for the occasional game, but I find they tend to distract from the gameplay and so very seldom use them, usually playing with the standard Chess pieces sets.I stumbled onto this game completely by accident. I didn't know anything about it, didn't even know it was in development, until I saw a YouTube video showing it off. After looking at the video I liked what I saw so I ordered the game. A week later it was in my hands and I installed it on my PC.From the video, I saw animated Chess pieces attacking eachother but the pieces were very finely modelled and detailed. I assumed this would be a gimiky Chess game I would play from time to time... Since it arrived, I have been GLUED to Battle vs Chess. This is not just another incarnation of Chess for you to play, this is Chess for the next generation!!!The game does indeed offer the standard Chess game to play and believe me, it plays a vicious game on high levels so even if you're a pro, which I count myself as, this game will challenge you. But where this differs from other Chess games is that this has a campaign mode...In the campaign, you pick to play as either white (good) or black (bad) and you are taken on a story driven adventure. Here you play Chess games with a twist. New rules are brought into play, new strategic elements are introduced, and what should be a standard game of Chess turns into a whole new adventure! The missions in the campaign really do make you stop and think...! When I started the campaign initially, I breezed through the first mission and I thought to myself that this was just some simple fun to try and liven up Chess (which I don't think it needs, I think the game is very lively as it stands). But the second mission challenged me for a while, and when I passed that, the third mission totally floored me! If you like Chess puzzles, THIS GAME IS FOR YOU!!!The Chess boards and pieces are STUNNINGLY created and animated! You play in different areas ranging from outside on a castle drawbridge to inside in the thrown room. The pieces are beautifully crafted elements of the figures they represent. The Rook is an animated castle, the Knight is a beastly creature - half man half horse, and so on. The pieces move in their own unique way around the board, performing their own attacks in their own unique way again. It is a pure joy to watch this in action!My only gripe with it is the pieces can take a couple of seconds sometimes to get moving, but in all fairness, this is a VERY MINOR gripe.I bought Battle vs Chess as a Chess fan who liked what I saw based on a YouTube video I saw of the game in action.Since I got it, I have not been able to put it down!! As a die hard Chess fan I did not think I would rate this Chess game highly, but I was wrong. This is an EPIC Chess experience and if you're a complete beginner, daily player, or pro, this game has something for everyone! I give Battle vs Chess TOP MARKS. Don't let this game pass you by...!!

Riskantes Spiel
Mein PC übertrifft alle Mindestanforderungen des Spiels. Da ich früher das alte Battle Chess gerne gespielt habe, wurde Battle vs. Chess bestellt.Die Installation begann schon merkwürdig. Obwohl ich "benutzerdefiniert" auswählte, erfolgte eine Komplettinstallation inklusive "Games for Windows Live", wozu auch immer das gut sein soll- ich seh null Nutzen darin. Dann mußte die Seriennr. eingegeben werden. Damit sollte es ja wohl gut sein, aber nun mußte ich noch den Product Key zur Onlineaktivierung eingeben. Das ist ja schlimmer als bei Windows ! Und nun kam das Sahnehäubchen: Als ich dieses Spiel nun endlich starten wollte, hängte es sich nach wenigen Sekunden mit schwarzem Bildschirm auf, und zwar so gründlich, daß es nicht mal mit dem Taskmager zu beenden ging. Also Resetknopf, nach dem hochfahren mit Tune Up den PC gewartet, und neuer Versuch, das Spiel zu starten. Mit dem gleichen Ergebnis. Im Laufe der Jahre hab ich die Erfahrung gemacht, daß solche Zicken die Systemstabilität gefährden. Ich hätte jetzt noch checken können, ob es mit brandneuen Grafiktreibern starten würde, hatte aber die Nase voll von dem Mist. Habs deinstalliert und werde versuchen, mein Geld zurück zu bekommen. Dann lieber TV gucken.P.S.: Glückwunsch an alle, bei denen das Spiel läuft.

Evoluzione dell'idea nata dal famoso vecchio Battle Chess per Ms-Dos, del 1988, questo gioco del 2011, si avvale delle tecniche di grafica moderne, offrendo così una ambientazione Fantasy-Cavalleresca in alta definizione, non solo bella da vedere, ma che crea anche atmosfere e sfondi evocativi.Nato principalmente per gli amanti del gioco degli scacchi "classici", il videogame tuttavia spazia e apre le porte a varie opportunità, che vanno dal giocare On line, al compiere missioni sempre più impegnative in una campagna di guerra tra le due fazioni, per passare a minigiochi rompicapo, o un tutorial che insegna come il tutto funziona.10 livelli di gioco a seconda dall'abilità dell'utente, permettono di non annoiarsi.Esistono altri giochi di "Battle Chess", ma nel complesso credo che ora come ora, il migliore sia questo.
