5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing beautiful boots !!!
I bought the 8119. If you're in doubt about buying these because they're so expensive and you wounder about it's quality, don't be. They are exactly as described. Well built, perfect material. But be aware of 2 important issues that everyone discusses.1. Size - I went down a full size ! I am a 44 EU in all of my boots and sometimes I need to go up, not down. My sneakers are 45 EU. So I went for 11US/10UK/44EU. It was way too big ! And I compared them with my other boots and they were bigger than all of them !!!! I went down a half size but still it remained bigger so I ended up ordering 10US/9UK/43EU. Maybe the problem is with the conversion, cause usually 11US is a 45EU not 44EU. The shoe last is perfect. My toes don't touch the leather end, and they have room to move. They fit like a glove !2. The break in period: For what I read, this model is much softer thant most. This leather is thick, resistant and soft to the touch. You put them on and they feel great, but you know you have to take it easy. Forget the idea to put them on and go for a long walk. I started wearing them around the house and go out for just short minute walks. After some time I would have to take them off. I'm at the end of the first week now and I can wear them on for a full morning or afternoon without complaints. No blisters whatsoever. A few more days and it will be over. Conclusion : There must be a break in period ! After that you're free to enjoy this excellent product !!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional boot. Don't overthink sizing
From the moment you take them out of the box, the quality and attention to detail is obvious. I have received multiple compliments on them while standing around at the pub. They simply look outstanding. I also love the smell of new leather and they have that in spades. These are likely the best made boots I own.Sizing was my biggest concern before they arrived. They are comfortable but take a bit to break in properly. That being said, I've had no issues. I did not try the boots on before ordering but instead spent hours scouring reviews to determine the best size. My original intent was to size down by 1/2, per many reviews and recommendations, but then my actual sized boot dropped dramatically in price so I ordered those. I've never worn Red Wings before but I have worn boots my entire life. I typically wear size 10 UK but I have a similar pair of Grenson boots that are 9.5 and a Frye lace-up that is 10.5. I went with 10 for the Red Wing. It fits my right foot perfectly but is a little large on my left. I wear thick Smart Wool socks and I wear a thin liner sock on my left and have had no issues. I've been wearing them for two weeks now and will often walk to the market and back, about 5 kilometres. They are a tad narrow but are long and my left boot has 3/4 inch spare room at the toe. I bought some inexpensive leather inserts for both, which seems to have helped. No foot pain, no complaints. They are comfortable, look great, and make me feel like a man - a real man with hair on his chest, a deep voice, and who doesn't get the hiccups when eating spicy food. Yeah, I feel like that man. You can too. Probably.
5.0 out of 5 stars Superb product
I bought these boots because after breaking my ankle my physio suggest boots for additional support above the ankle etc.. The quality of the Iron Ranger is extraordinary. They are so well made that out the box my fingers could feel the solidity and made my feet panic. Putting them on for the first time was rather like wrapping my feet in concrete. I'd guess at two-hours wear around the house each day, they could take between a week to ten days to break-in. They are *that* solid. The leather is thick, heavy and well-oiled. The insole is a thick and hard slab of veg-tanned leather which has no cushioning whatsoever and slowly moulds to your feet with wear and warmth. In time the boot becomes even more comfortable that it is after the uppers break-in. You have to break the boot in twice - inside and outside. Once done, the comfort is amazing.Sizing -Keep it simple. Whatever size you are in trainers/sneakers - go half a size down on that.Colour -One thing to note: the different colours are also different *leathers* - not just different colours of the same thing. The 'black harness' leather is completely different to the 'black prarie' leather on their Blacksmith boot. Also, boot-oil and oil-basd products will change the colour. One assumes that the boots you get have something to do with the colour you like. If you put the wrong product on them they will darken. Redwing's own 'leather cream', however, does NOT darken leather.
5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best Red Wing boots
This is my fourth poor of red wings and I think the best.I have a pair of Beckmans which are very heavy and have taken me 12 months to break in , but are pretty cool. They are more like workman boots, my chelsea boots and chukkas are good.I had my eye on the iron Ranger and eventually I have go them because of these being available with Vibram soles and the amazing colour. These seem to be made of a softer leather and didn't take long to break in. They are solid and look good, I have had them a week and I am always getting compliments on them. They will be hard wearing and already are very comfortable. For me they fit as expected, and don't rub anywhere.Highly recommended also are Aphrodite clothing from who I get these well within 48 hours of ordering, almost next day.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good looking, tough but comfortable. Very high quality leather.
These boots are and look tough, but surely don' t lack style. The leather is very good, like all Red Wing shoes and boots(I owned 4 pairs). The toes are not steel-made, yet harder than the rest of the boot, and of most shoes... I don' t know if it' s about thicker leather or some plastic insert, but pushing the front part with a finger is very hard, even if in the end it bends. These boots are still very comfortable, I can wear them for long hours even in warm buildings, and can ride a bicycle with them on without feeling any obstacle at moving my feet. At the end of the day, they are more than worth their price... as the saying goes, who spends little, spends twice.Made in the USA
Super!
Ich bin stolz diesen Schuh zu besitzen. Wie aus einem Guss. Bauartbedingt etwas schwer, jedoch wertig.
Bullet-proof ... These are the REAL DEAL!
I bought the Amber Harness Iron Rangers a few months ago -- and think I've finally found the right size. Usually a 9.5 M in a dress shoe ... these were properly fitted to me in an 8.5 M in a Red Wing store. (I couldn't believe it ... but that's how they ran). Also have a pair of Blacksmiths that were improperly sized on me at a 9.0 M last year (the same "last" as IR) yet with the leather stretching, they have become roomier -- and they now have an added insole. I absolutely love the Iron Rangers model - and wish I'd gone that route, first. When I recently saw the Iron Ranger Muleskinners on sale in my proper size (at a 34% savings), I had to pounce. They fit snug and comfortable - and the construction, stitching and leather are awesome (as with any Red Wing I've seen). Wow. Unlike other folks, I don't have major break-in issues with pain, so I've already worn the Mules 3x this week (they arrived 5 days ago). I expect both pairs will last "forever" - then I'll give to my son if they fit him.UPDATE Nov. 29, 2017Continue to love. These and the 8111 boots just get better and better. Extremely important you get the right size. Try on in store if you can. These are 1 full size smaller than normal boots / dress shoes I own ... and they've formed to my foot and fit like an absolute glove.
... when they were on sale and I couldn't be happier! I'm usually a 11
I purchased these boots when they were on sale and I couldn't be happier! I'm usually a 11.5-12 in normal shoes but read up on these. I ordered the 11D and they fit perfectly. They were a little snug at first but after an hour or two they already felt broken in enough where they were comfortable. I plan on purchasing some arch support but for the most part these do a good job. My feet have very high arches so this is needed for most shoes.I plan on purchasing more Red Wing boots in the future.
Excelente calidad
Gran calidad y estilo, pedi un número menor al habitual como lo recomendaron y me quedaron muy bien, ni apretadas ni sueltas
Go to war (or the grocery store [or even a grocery store war]) in boots made to endure
Get fitted in a store before ordering online, as others have suggested; turns out I needed a full size down as opposed to half, resulting in unnecessary exchanges.Initial impressions (few days)- gorgeous, handcrafted details, thick, durable leather, tough-as-nails outer sole and strong hardware. The break-in has been absolutely brutal; three days in, I had to give them a break after my heels blistered, burst and bruised. My feet are flatter and more gnarled than the average pair, but you can likely anticipate a similar experience if correctly sized. For the uninitiated, this is simply the way it's done- no pain, no gain.I'm rating in good faith that these will be incredible boots once I've thoroughly broken them in and will update on that front later. I can already see the leather beginning to wrinkle and mold itself around my ankles, so progress is painstakingly being made.In any case, I wanted a tough pair of daily boots that make me feel prepared if I wake up and the sky is burning, and I suspect I've got em now.*3 Week Update*I'm unsure if they're finally broken in, or if I've developed thick calluses in all the right places (probably both), but they're finally wearable without bandaging my feet every morning. I've had occasional circulation issues in one foot (it's slightly larger than the other), but this seems to be diminishing. They feel incredible to walk in and are surprisingly comfortable. Sometimes they catch compliments, which is neat-o.My... sole... complaint is that my pair had a minor manufacturing defect- the tongues are off-center by a large margin, roughly 75/25, so when laced up, one side of my foot is barely covered at the top of the boot. It annoys me a little in the morning; I always have to smooth the tongue out carefully while lacing up to prevent it from crumpling into no coverage on one side. Perhaps it can be modified (local Red Wing store said they do repairs/ sole swaps, etc.), but it's hardly pressing- I never notice during the day.All in all, excellent thus far. Time will tell if they hold up to their laurels, or if they'll be caught resting. One thing's for sure- these boots were made for walkin, and they'll walk all over poo.*6 Month Update*It's midwinter, fairly mild this year by most standards. I daily these in the suburbs/ office, 2-3 miles per day, and they've been up to the task. They're not ideal for snow/ ice, of course- even with mink oil, they're not truly waterproof or heat retentive- but they suffice, if you don't mind mild discomfort. What sold me on these boots, and continues to do so, is their incredible resilience. While they've begun to accumulate a nick here, a crack there, and a tiny rough patch over yonder, they've largely retained their shape despite daily use, occasional jogging and all-weather exposure. The partially lopsided heels have betrayed the secret of my janky walk, but otherwise, the soles are surprisingly intact, and have only suffered surface wear. And let's not neglect the laces. I can't tell if they're somehow extraordinary or if the eyelets are just soft, rounded and gentle. Perhaps a bit of both. Whatever the case, the laces show zero signs of fraying, with a barely discernable wisp of fuzzy edging at most. I've never seen laces hold up this well, this long before. And yes, I am an actual human being expressing mild excitement over shoelaces on an Bolo review. This is real life.Anyways, it's also a bit amusing to note that my heels have developed deeply rooted calluses in response to these boots, but I couldn't care less. They feel superbly nimble and beautifully personal. This might sound odd, but I feel a sort of bond with these boots, as one might with an old dog. I've shaped them with my feet, they've returned the favor upon my heels, and consequently, we've both adapted to fit each other better than any shoes before them. Bearing in mind how long they're reputed to last, how Red Wing will resole them for you to yield additional years of life... Well, it feels like it could just be the beginning of something special.
