Invaders Must Die

Description:

First offering from the eclectic dance band since 2004's 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned'. Their fifth studio album gives a nod in the direction of their earlier work, with a distinct 'rave' sound, it also features guest musicians Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters and James Rushent from Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Amazon.co.uk

Invaders Must Die finds the Prodigy line-up of Liam Howlett, Keith Flint, and Maxim Reality back together on record for the first time since 2002’s ill-fated, subsequently disowned “Baby’s Got A Temper”. This doesn’t mark a return to the bad old days of punk-rave cabaret, though. No, in fact, Invaders Must Die finds The Prodigy delving even further back into their history, an attempt to recapture the heady rave vibes, one-finger keyboard riffs, and concussive breakbeats of 1992’s Experience and its epochal follow-up, 1994’s Music For A Jilted Generation. True, sometimes it feels a little too transparent in its eagerness to recapture past glories: “Thunder”, with its loping reggae vocal, is undeniably Howlett on form, but it apes the formula of 1992’s “Out Of Space” a little too closely for comfort. Still, the likes of “Omen” and “Take Me To The Hospital” are agreeably back-to-basics cuts that merge nagging melodies and fairground waltzer queasiness with a weighty production job that renders them muscular enough to compete on a level playing field with Justice, Pendulum, et al. “Run With The Wolves” is the one track that harks strongly back to Fat Of The Land, a gnarled, rocky number with Dave Grohl on live drums that finds Keith Flint claiming to be “hung like a hound”. The closing “Stand Up” is a late surprise, meanwhile, a euphoric set-closer with hints of Screamadelica-era Primal Scream. --Louis Pattison

Also, it's quite hard to see the disc number/side. Not sure on audio quality - seems good to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A return to form for these pioneers of the Big-Beat sound.

An amazing album by the prodigy and a return to form for them after the less than impressive "Always outnumbered, never outgunned" ...The title track is great with some signature Prodigy samples and sounds (a feeling the permeates the whole album)"Warrior's dance" is again a spectacular track with a great pace, beat and samples. "Stand Up" has already been used in many as and TV spots and is overall a slower, more accessible track but no less impressive than those previously mentioned. There are, as one would expect, some middle-of-the-road tracks that neither impress nor hurt the ears such as "Pirahna" "colours" & "Thunder" ... But again, overall, this album marks a return to form for The Prodigy and I look forward to their next release.

For those of you who grew up with the Prodigy first time around, whether just on 'Top of the pops' or in dark sweaty clubs with 1000's of fellow techno-heads, Invaders must die will make the hairs on your neck stand on end with a nostalgic grin. Invaders must die is a return to the old Prodigy, if they admit it or not, you'll be convinced you've heard a couple of tracks years ago. This album will not disappoint any Prodigy fans old or new; its revives long forgotten transient memories and introduces some new sides to an already extraordinary back catalogue of thumping classics! If you don't get your hands on Invaders must die, you'll be missing out of one of the Prodigy's best albums!

4.0 out of 5 stars Music for the jilted generation is still top

T.B. · 27 August 2024

This is my second favourite prodigy album, after music for the jilted generation. Production is on point, and the samples are well selected/ powerful. Not a new album, I just bought this to replace my broken vinyls. Liam howlett is a genius , all killer only two fillers (thunder ⛈️and colours) . The apple music version of this album has 27 songs lasting 2 hours plus. Mostly remixes. Still testament to Braintree's finest...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic band and a great purchase

T. · 21 May 2014

I listened to the album and decided I loved it. I then decided to buy it and i'm really glad I did! I love almost all of the songs on it, and the best thing was how many songs I got for the price. I was very happy that I could download the songs and listen to them before the CD came, but when I realised that I had the original songs and quite a few remixes as well I was very happy. So now I'm quite pleased with myself for buying this :)

PhenomenalJust when you thought it was all over - the Prodigy is back and better than ever!"Always Outnumbered..." may have had a few good points, but it always had the feel of a 'filler' album... now we have the proof - here is the killer! This is the best thing they have done since "Fat of the Land" - some may say it's better. All I know is that I put it in my car stereo three weeks ago and it's been on ever since. All is once more right in the world of the Prodigy & I am a happy bunny.C :-)

le VRAI retour de Prodigy

x. · 25 March 2009

Oublions rapidement le "Always machin-truc-chouette" sorti en 2004, et de triste mémoire pour les fans de The Fat of the Land. The Fat of the Land. Bref une belle réussite et un VRAI retour tout simplement.
