Following the iconic original wasn’t easy, but this sequel brings its own flavor to the Rydell High experience. Packed with high-energy musical numbers, bold characters, and unapologetic camp. I used to be obsessed with this film as a young teen and watched it more times than I can remember. I was prompted to re-watch it after listening to Brett Goldstein rave about it in his Films to be Buried with podcast and it doesn't disappoint. Great positive storyline which empowers the women instead of the men (like in the original), all the songs are catchy and breach the full range of sentiments, and, despite not having seen the film in over 20 years I still remembered most of the script and all of the songs. I had a great 2 hours singing my little heart out and watching Michelle Pfeifer being beautiful and strong, certain about what she wanted and Maxwell Caulfield looking so young and handsome and trying to win the girl the right way.... I'd not picked up on the messages of consent as a youngster but they are there and not preachy. Love love love!

If you don't compare it to Grease (which let's face it you're going to no matter what), it's not THAT bad but it's definitely got problems.Firstly, the story is pretty cliché. Although arguably Grease was too, they pulled it off because it was entertaining and well acted. The acting is awful in this! Maxwell Caulfield has as much charisma as dry paint, the T-Birds are all forgettable as are the supporting Pink Ladies and the only likable character is Frenchy who disappears half way through the movie. While Pfeiffer does an ok job at giving some life to her character, I just don't buy the romance because, when it comes down to it, there isn't anything in her that would make her attractive to the nerdy genius aside from her pretty face. She's sort of nice to him when they first meet but then after that she doesn't give him the time of day and the one time she does, it's only to use him to help her with her English essay. In fact, half their shared dialogue is just him correcting her poor grammar! And although he learns how to be a 'cool rider' for her, he's still exactly what she said she was afraid of; behind the goggles, he's an ordinary dull guy, so logically there's no reason she would be interested in him either.As for the songs, there's only two memorable ones which are Cool Rider. Everything else is pretty forgettable, though they're not necessarily bad. Which reminds me, I'm surprised no one has pointed out how bad Caulfield's singing is. They hide it ok, but I noticed it right away. I think he's just there to be the eye candy for the girls to be honest. The best singers are actually from the supporting characters.Overall, although it has major flaws mainly because it's basically a reversed version of Grease, I found it to be an ok movie. If you lower your expectations, it does have a few fun moments and though the songs aren't fantastic, it's only by Grease standard and they can be entertaining on their own. Also, I think the main reason I don't buy the romance is because Pfeiffer and Caulfield apparently did not get along, but they do an ok job at hiding that and I guess they do have a few cute moments together like the motorbike ride.

Nostaligie auf die 80iger
Patricia Birch war für die Choreography des Films von 1982 verantwortlich. Der Song Back to School erreichte den ersten Platz der US-Charts. Michelle Pfeiffer besingt in "Cool Raider" den Mann Ihrer Träume und vor dem Bowl a Rama fragen sich alle "Who`s that Guy?" und ahnen nicht, das es der neue Schüler Michael Carrington ist. Die Gefühle, der Aufklärungsunterricht (Reproduction) und das Verwirrspiel der Liebe dürfen dabei natürlich nicht fehlen..Eine 60ige Klamotte ist Grease 2 auf keinen Fall. Aber damit man zumindest einen Bezug zu dem Vorgänger findet, engagierte man kurzum Didi Conn (Frenchy) aus dem Kultstreifen Grease 1 mit John Travolta und Olivia Newton John.Michelle Pfeiffer sagte einmal zu Grease 2, das es der schlechteste Film Ihrer Karriere war, ich dagegen halte diesen für einen wundervollen Film mit sehr guter Musik und ja eine sehr dünnen Story. Denn wenn man diesen Film als 8 Jährige gesehen hat, ist man einfach nur verzaubert. Mit Grease 1 dagegen konnte ich damals wie heute absolut nichts anfangen.Es liegt mitunter auch an den Schauspielern und das die große Schwester die Platte Grease 2 damals kaufte und immer hoch und runter spielte und wir danach tanzten. Dieser Film ist ein bisschen Nostaligie auf die 80iger und Gott sei Dank kein ernstgenommener Nachfolger von Grease 1.Leider gibt es diesen Film nur auf Video und daher muss man Qualitätsverluste (Bild/Ton) in Kauf nehmen. Trotz dieses Mankos ist es ein sehr schöner kitschiger Film.
