Now you think "but we have scissors" and you would be right, they are great for the finer work and odd shapes. This rotary cutter is necessary, like you need these two things! I can cut a pattern out incredibly quickly. If you have a large cutting mat and keep the pattern in place you can easily go around the edges with the cutter. It does straight lines (takes a lil practice and maybe a ruler) and curves. When making masks for example I need to cut through multiple layers. You just sweep straight through it with no issues, just press a lil harder. You will find that scissors can leave jagged edges when doing 8 pieces of cotton, plus the layers tend to move a lil and you don't get exact copies. This thing gets you EXACT copies. If you are going to get two things, look at the video and get those scissors and this.On a side note with Fiskars, they are used across the world by fashion houses that have been round hundreds of years. They know their business. I had an issue with a set of scissors that were 4 years old, they sent me a replacement pair without more than a copy of the receipt. They are fabulous and will be a brand I stick with. For goodness sake do not get cheap scissors it just wastes you time.

the handle is nice to hold. Nice and chunky so you can grip it well. I previously had one of those bog standard yellow ones which was not as easy to grip. This also has an easy system to push the blade into position for cutting and withdraw it and lock it securely when not in use. All this is done in seconds (again, my standard one you had to push the blade forward and then tighten the screw to hold the blade in place for cutting - it was a pain). Although it is also easy to change the blades, I have made about a dozen patchwork quilts of various sizes, all cut with this and it is still going strong. I also use it for cutting straight lines when pattern cutting and cutting fabric lengths off a roll.I would definitely buy one again, though I think that might not be for some time yet!

Fiskars is an amazing brand and always cuts to perfection!The rotary blade is sharp and when you apply enough force, it cuts the fabric in one go.The delivery was quick and packaged well. There are no damages to the product.I recommend this product which makes cutting fabric much more easier and efficient, it isn't time-consuming and the safety lock is very useful.

My first thought using this for the first time was 'why on earth have I been using scissors all this time?'This is my first rotary cutter so I can't compare it to others, but it is perfect for my needs. I'm a seamstress and do a lot of pattern cutting. I have been pinning my pattern pieces and using scissors but with this I can just spread the fabric out on a large cutting mat, and trace around the edges. I have just saved myself serious time and effort!You squeeze the cutter to release the blade, which may be harder for people with sore hands but still easier than scissors I would imagine. The blade is very sharp at the moment, I'll be interested to see how soon it blunts but after a months wear it's still absolutely fine. I haven't had issue with curves so far but small details do still need to be cut with scissors for acuracy.I chose Fiskars because I have always been very happy with their scissors, so I trust the brand.

I make clothing and bags in particular and have a few rotary cutters so I am compare.This one feels very good in the hand and easily keeps to a straight line even when not using against a straight edge such as a ruler. For the first time today I used this to cut 250msg card as was crafting and it just sliced through with no effort...clean crisp cuts. It is great for cutting fabric too and I will enjoy using this. The only thing I wish is that there was more than one blade supplied with the cutter but that is the same with many of them.I like the fact that by pressing a button on the side the blade stays put whether opening or locking. It definitely cuts Very well and easy to use. So far definitely recommended.

It's not the cheapest thing in the world, but it's good. I was very happy when it arrived, just surprised the blades don't last as long as I would like them to. Weekends are my sewing days, and the blades are as "good" as my cheeper blades. I also bought the zig zag scissors and they are a bit stiff. As much as I hoped this brand will be thebest, I will not purchase this brand again.

I bought this, some time ago now, as a multi functional cutting tool.I have permanent damage to my right wrist, and scissors aren’t always easy for me to use - I figured a rotary cutter would be useful in that I only have to grip it rather than grip and operate the blades.Definitely glad I bought it. Over time I’ve used it to cut leather, fabric, canvas (for painting on, not tent material), it’s brilliant for straight, no fuss edges, the blade is fabulously sharp (and remains so after months of use), it’s a nice weight, and ergonomic most definitely.If you’re looking for a rotary cutter that’s reliable, robust, sharp, can’t think of a reason not to buy this one.

Great tool for cutting fabric
It took me a while to understand that I could lock it (first pinch, then push the orange little switch to lock), but now I'm happy to use this tool to cut fabric on a cutting mat. Push the orange switch back to unlock and retract the blade -- great to protect your fingers, as well as to protect the blades themselves from other metal objects.
