The problem Anthony Kiedis and his supremely dysfunctional musical family faced when beginning work on their eighth album, By the Way, wasn't so much how to top (or even compare) to the critical and commercial euphoria of 1999's superb , but more how to avoid the comedown that followed their other highpoint----where turned into several long years that nearly finished them. They decided, it seems, to just shut their eyes, press pedal to metal and continue as before. It's worked magnificently--no small thanks to the canny production of Rick Rubin again and the cohesive gelling Frusciante returning to what has now emerged as a tight, focused unit (despite the album being, as ever, about five songs too long--"Midnight" and "Minor Thing" for instance). Minor quibbles though, for when the Chili Peppers are average, they still tower over most other bands.
"By The Way", by far not the best cut here (those would be the quite wonderful "Tear" and the widescreen "Don't Forget Me"), picks up where Californication left off, but is not representative of an album that frequently revisits the sunshine harmonies of "Road Trippin'" and desolate landscape of "Scar Tissue". Endlessly surprising and hugely engaging, the Chili Peppers have opened their eyes and found themselves with a another great record on their hands, solidifying both themselves as a group and their position as one of the world's best rock bands. --Ben Johncock

5.0 out of 5 stars Very decent pressing, until there is a better edition this one might be the one to get
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I think this edition (the one cut by Vlado Meller) is a strong perhaps 4.5 but since there is no way to rate it so i will rate it a 5. Sound could have been improved a bit but it's nice that it's well distributed in 2 discs instead of them trying to cramm it all in one disc as it has happened with other albums and it's also basically dead quiet wax, which, given some recent releases i would consider it a blessing. It's also nice that it's a gatefold cover since the californication edition that is supposed to be the best one out there wasn't even given a proper gatefold cover. I played this a few weeks ago and i don't entirely remember but i think the inner sleeves are not too good, they probably require at least a complimentary set of inner plastic sleeves since i think these were just coarse paper sleeves.Back to the sound i would say that it's a bit flat and dynamics don't really shine much, but it's even and it sounds enjoyable for itself. Hopefull one day it will get a special treatment and we will be enjoying the definitive edition with as much dynamics popping out as possible.Any way, if you consider this album a must-have, this edition might just do it for you.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever Album?!
What can I say, what an incredible album, every track is amazing, 'throw away your television' is the weakest but stil great particularly live, features the Chilis greatest line up of course of kiedes, frusciante, flea and Smith, impossible to pick my favourite track by the way, dosed, the zephyr song, tear, on mercury, minor thing, Venice queen, can't stop etc I couldn't possibly choose, this album always reminds me of a great time in life aswell, I always say this is the album that got me into the Chilis and music in general because at the time I wasn't a huge fan of music but by the way changed that it made me go back and buy all of chilis previous stuff and Ive been hooked since, I am a massive chilis fan so I love near enough all there songs but I know people who hate the Chilis but stil love this record. I also love the fact this was my first ever album also the greatest?! Don't take my word for it buy it and hear for yaself!! If you think your not a fan of the Chilis this record may change your mind it's that great. The best ever album?! My opinion and it's also a fact

Great listen on vinyl
5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Chilli Peppers Album - Superb on Vinyl
Only arrived yesterday. I know the album well from CD but have recently been buying vinyl instead. When I saw I could get this album on vinyl for about £12, including postage, it was a no-brainer.I am not disappointed. There is such a difference. I have to admit I don't have a great CD player and I do have a brilliant turntable. I have several albums on CD and vinyl, normally there's an improvement (in my opinion) but for this album there was so much more depth and detail from the vinyl. The pressing is clean, the vinyl is heavy (180g?) and it's just wonderful.Like the Chillis? Like vinyl? You'll love this.
Quality pressing, Timeless Album!

Compratelo senza batter ciglio!
Jhd.!
