Description:
In this hilarious spoof on disaster films, a former pilot who is terrified of flying due to his wartime foul-ups is forced to take o ver the controls of a plane after the pilots contract food poisoning.
Amazon.co.uk Review
The quintessential movie spoof that spawned an entire genre of parody films, the original Airplane! still holds up as one of the brightest comedic gems of the 1980s, not to mention of cinema itself (it often tops polls of the funniest movies ever made). The humour may be low and obvious at times, but the jokes keep coming at a rapid-fire clip and its targets--primarily the lesser lights of 1970s cinema, from disco films to star-studded disaster epics--are more than worthy for send-up. If you've seen even one of the overblown Airport movies then you know the plot: the crew of a filled-to-capacity jetliner is wiped out and it's up to a plucky stewardess and a shell-shocked fighter pilot to land the plane. Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty are the heroes who have a history that includes a meet-cute á la Saturday Night Fever, a surf scene right out of From Here to Eternity, a Peace Corps trip to Africa to teach the natives the benefits of Tupperware and basketball, a war-ravaged recovery room with a G.I. who thinks he's Ethel Merman (a hilarious cameo)--and those are just the flashbacks! The jokes gleefully skirt the boundaries of bad taste (pilot Peter Graves to a juvenile cockpit visitor: "Joey, have you ever seen a grown man naked?"), with the high (low?) point being Hagerty's intimate involvement with the blow-up automatic pilot doll, but they'll have you rolling on the floor. The film launched the careers of collaborators Jim Abrahams (Big Business), David Zucker (Ruthless People) and Jerry Zucker (Ghost), as well as revitalising such B-movie actors as Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Robert Stack and Leslie Nielsen, who built a second career on films like this. A vital part of any home film collection. --Mark Englehart, Amazon.com

The product is very good. It always also delivered very quickly. Unfortunately I wasted my money buying it because I cannot watch it offline. This was my sole purpose.
4.0 out of 5 stars Classic comedy.
I've never actually seen this film other than on commercial TV, with regular ad breaks, so the thing that really surprised me was how short it is; 84 minutes. It's a parody of the famous "Airport" series of drama/disaster movies, filled with puns, double-entendres, misunderstandings and play on words, with the cockpit crew having names that sound similar to the kind of instructions and checks that would go on before take-ff as one example.Like the movies it parodies, a disaster strikes the crew and passengers during the flight, and an unlikely hero has to save the day, with all kinds of hilarity as he is "talked down" by a Senior Pilot on the ground who served with him in a recent war, and doubts his ability to land the plane safely. All kinds of hilarity ensues.I won't give away too much of the plots or the jokes for those who may not have seen the film, but I'll say that it is one of Leslie Nielsen's earliest movie appearances, and features U.S sports star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar incongruously playing himself, but you'll have to watch it to find out what I mean by that.Voted one of the Top Ten funniest films ever, it's well-worth watching for some light-hearted retro-based fun.
5.0 out of 5 stars ✈️ Airplane! Blu-ray: Turbulently Hilarious - Fasten Your Seatbelts! ✈️
Alright, buckle up, folks! So, I bought this Airplane! Blu-ray, expecting a smooth ride through classic comedy. Little did I know, I was in for a ride wilder than my dating history! The packaging arrived like a mystery box, and I felt like a detective about to unravel the secrets of comedic genius. Unboxing it was like defusing a laughter bomb - nerve-wracking, but oh so exciting!Upon first sight, the Blu-ray looked sleek, like a James Bond of comedy. I was ready for belly laughs, not shaken, just stirred. 🍸Now, let's talk features. This Blu-ray is like a stand-up show in your living room, only you're not at risk of being heckled by your couch. Instructions? Pop it in, press play, and let Leslie Nielsen work his magic. It's so simple even my pet rock figured it out. 🪨Embarrassing Moments:Date Night: Tried impressing a date with Airplane! comedy gold. Little did I know, my date had never seen it, and my attempts at "jive talk" made me sound like I was having a meltdown. 😅Family Movie Night: Decided to share the classic with my parents. Turns out, they're more into highbrow British dramas. The inflatable autopilot scene led to awkward silence and a stern family talk. 👀Office Screening: Brought it to work thinking it'd be a hit. Boss walked in during the inflatable autopilot scene (again), misunderstood, and let's just say, I'm now pursuing a new career path. 🙈The Game-Changer:Airplane! didn't just make me laugh; it transformed my social life. I'm now busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger with dates! Turns out, a sense of humor is more attractive than six-pack abs. Who knew? 😂💼One Hilarious Flaw:The movie's flaw? It's so funny; I accidentally spat out my popcorn, hitting my unsuspecting cat. Now, she gives me the stink-eye every time I press play. Sorry, Whiskers, comedy casualty. 😼🍿Conclusion:In the grand scheme of life, Airplane! on Blu-ray is like having a laughter captain steering your entertainment journey. Sure, there are a few turbulence moments, but isn't that what makes the ride memorable?Rating: 5/5 StarsBecause if laughter is the best medicine, consider me cured! Now, excuse me while I book my next date... or should I say, comedy night? Please appreciate this review with a chuckle and some positive vibes; let's keep the comedy soaring high! 😄🎬
