I decided to go for the waffle iron instead of the electric ones, as it would take up less room. It is very sturdy and the non stick surface seems to be of good quality. I made my first batch of waffles today, but didn't use the yeast recipe that was included on the packaging, as we didn't want to wait for the yeast to start to work. I used 250g plain flour, 1 dessert spoon of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of caster sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 450ml of semi skimmed milk, 2 eggs separated, two tablespoons melted butter. I whisked the egg whites and set them aside. I mixed all the other ingredients together, except the melted butter. Add the melted butter when everything is nicely mixed. I then folded in the egg whites. Heat the waffle iron for 2 minutes on each side. I turned the gas down to medium/low. I melted a bit more butter and lightly brushed the iron on both sides with the butter. Then filled the bottom plate with the mixture until it covered all the bumps, then put the lid down. There was a bit of trial and error, but the best results were when I cooked it for about 45 seconds, then turned the iron over. I cooked it on the other side for about 2 minutes then gave it another couple of minutes on the first side. Depending on how brown and crisp you like them, you may have to give them a bit more or less time, and vary the heat. You can open and check them after a couple of minutes and they didn't seem to stick at all. This quantity filled the iron 5 times, and they were crisp on the outside, but soft and light in the middle and turned out really well. Very pleased with the waffler.
5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to use, and good enough for Nigella
This thing is a joy to useIf ever you were thinking about buying an electric waffle make STOP! They suffer from not getting hot enough, and stick, then take up far too much room next to the abandoned bread maker in your cupboard. This thing is a joy to use. we use some spray oil to minimise amount used and get coverage. Heat it strongly for a few minutes, then spoon in mixture. 1 minute on that side, then 2 on the other, and you have amazing waffes every time. Best part is you can then clean it in the sink like any other pan any store it with minimal room. 4 months in and we've used it a good 15-20 times without fault. If useful, the recipe I use is Jamie Olivers, and they taste great! Don't forget the Nutella!Update December 17.. this thing has now made countless waffles in our household and it’s still perfect! Watching Nigella on tv over xmas looks like this is her weapon of choice too!Update March 2018.. I've gotten into using this for potato waffles now too. Coarsly grated potato, squeeze out the water, mix in herbs, salt and pepper, then cram it into a pre oiled waffler. Make sure its nice and full, mines usually bulging. This will settle down and I get lovely potato waffles. The secret for these is a low to medium heat for around 15 minutes. MmmmUpdate September 19. My waffler is still producing awesome waffles and is as good as the day I bought it. Top stuff
5.0 out of 5 stars Waffley versatile
We recently swapped out an AGA for a dual fuel range cooker and I was looking around for a waffle iron to use with it. I considered the standard waffle making machines but was quite taken with the idea of this as is seemed a bit more fun to use - also it is called a waffler which I found quite pleasing.Having looked at multiple products I settled on this one after reading the reviews on Bolo.com (after all who better to review a waffle iron that our cousins across the pond eh?).I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with the product. It is easy to use - simply baste the interior with oil or butter, place on a gas burner and wait until the top surface is too hot to touch, add waffle mix and then flip it over and cook for 3 minutes. So far perfect waffles every time (I would definitely recommend, irrespective of the recipe in use, whisking the egg whites and folding them into the waffle batter as it makes the waffles really fluffy and light) with a lovely crispy surface.Once done and cooled it is easy to clean as it comes apart and, because it is aluminium, it is easy to handle (i.e. not too heavy).Remember this is aluminium and not cast iron so won't work with induction hobs.I would definitely recommend this product.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works Well
Works well as long as you use the right waffle mixture and keep the waffle iron oiled so that the waffles do not stick. Very easy to clean.
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to wash, Robust piece of kitchen equipment.
Great addition to the cooking cabinet for this family. This is sturdy, easy to wash and makes great waffles. It is non-stick, but it works best if you add some oil or butter and get it really hot before adding the batter. We had a few 'misses' early on adding the batter too early. Shipped very fast.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the effort after first time
Worked beautifully one time, then the non-stick coating started coming off (hand washed only, we don't have a dishwasher) and every single time after that it was nothing but trouble. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong but the recipe is one I've used for years. Enough already, it's going
5.0 out of 5 stars Waffle maker review
Really easy to use and great quality.
5.0 out of 5 stars excellent low-tech product
(Did write earlier review in Oct 2012 when I bought this but it hasn't appeared). Earlier I said excellent customer service, v prompt, good price. Now I've used product and can say it is brilliant. I always brush lightly with oil before putting batter in and you have to become familiar with timing on each side. But absolutely delicious, real 'Belgian' style waffles with v deep indentations, crispy, brown...yum! Recipe with item for Belgian waffles works perfectly. It is a yeast waffle but only requires 45 minutes rising so can be done same morning, no hassle. So great to be able simply to immerse in hot soapy water to clean, no trailing flexes etc. etc. Really puzzled by Bolo.com reviewer with sticking problems - excellent turnout for me. But as I say I do always brush with oil first, takes about 2 secs.

Perfect Waffle Iron!!
This is exactly what I was looking for! It works perfectly! No sticking! I have used this a handful of times since I got it. I have never used cooking sprays on it. That is what causes the breakdown of the finish. It makes it gummy. I just it a quick rinse and allow it to air dry. I have never had anything stick. It's heavy, without being too heavy. Easy to use, easy to store. I have had electric waffle irons in the past, and they are bulky, messy, hard to clean, and take up room to store them. This one is back to basics. No electricity needed (I have a gas stove).
Guter Kauf
Simple and very well made...
I've read over some of the negative reviews before making my final decisions on this item because I mostly saw a lot of potential and promise into what I could do with this product (saving money by whipping my own personal batter and possibly spiking the recipe with protein powder or some other supplements. This review will not cover this attempt as it's purpose was to simply make waffles without taking up too much space and to be incredibly easy to clean and maintain). What I didn't like about the electric waffle makers is the idea over how bulky and prone to being broken they are if they are either bumped or dropped from the counter. The folks that designed this product clearly had this in mind, they made their item from superior materials and it's what you're paying for here.It calls for vegetable oil to be painted as an optional choice; but I usually use whatever cooking oil that I have in the kitchen like canola oil that I would use for eggs or pancakes, and it turned out just fine for me (I initially thought my first batter was oily, and it didn't require the oil since the two pans are coated with a nonstick material and so easy to separate, and reassemble during cooking without oven mitts or gloves. I left a lot of room on the stovetop to work). With my first batter, I was able to whip up 16 waffles (some of them were not complete, while others overflowed when I put too much in; but these things come with practice); no problem and no fuss, and at a fraction of the price of buying commercial waffles buying the ingredients individually and mixing them into a thick batter. For a normal batter from the time that you start with the ingredients from scratch to the time you are done, you're looking at somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes (and if you're really efficient, you could also add the clean-up period to that timing also). Clean-up is virtually fuss free as the item is already coated with a non-stick material; but since it's aluminum, you wouldn't dare stick it in the dishwasher or the detergent will oxidize the Aluminum. The price seems a little high compared to the electric waffle makers; but you're paying for something that is very well made and efficient when it takes only 3-4 minutes per waffle, it's easy to stack your waffles on a nearby plate (does feel old fashioned), and repeat the process that is only limited by how much waffle batter you have. You can make some crazy good waffles with this item, and still be incredibly sanitary that nobody's going to get sick with the next batter when it's easy to disassemble (there's only two pieces) and thoroughly scrub & rinse out as necessary as you need too. This items is well worth the price compared to electric waffle makers. Now my folks want one after seeing this item in action and the results.
