There is not much here that is up to the standard of their original LPs in terms of rhythmic and melodic originality, but certainly pleasing to listen to and worth it for this cheap price.

Family existed in an era when singles were just as likely to be stand-alone releases as tracks drawn from LPs, and this CD does a pretty good job of mopping up the non-album material.A star docked because one of the later B-sides sounds crackly and so was presumably sourced from vinyl.Also long-standing contractual problems mean that the three early singles from 1967 & 1968 are not included.Anyone seeking a more representative Family compilation would probably do better to check out the the budget 2CD set released a couple of years ago which includes most of the tracks on here plus a generous selection of their album material.

A Great Singles Collection of Single - As & Bs

The first single No Mule's Fool to appear is a rather good tune but, one you do not expect to come from Family. It's b side is Good Friend of Mine which is also different for the group. The other great ditties on this disc include Today, Strange Band, Burlesque, My Friend the Sun, Boom Bang and Sweet Desiree plus their b-sides. This is a great disc for those who collect "Best Ofs" The only difference between a "Best Of" and a collection of singles is that you do not get the b sides. So, this As and Bs is exactly what it is. Many times a lot of singles are hard to find and the Best Of will not even contain an a side let alone a b side. If you like collections of singles this one is great! It is really great especially if you like Family.
