About the Author

A writer of the New York Pen League, Kahlil Gibran was born Gibran Kahlil Gibran in 1883 in the town of Bsharri, Mount Lebanon, Ottoman Syria. Owing to his familys poor financial condition, Gibran did not receive any formal education in his childhood. He was taught at home by the visiting priests. Most of Gibrans early works were written in Arabic. His first work was a work about music. It was titled Nubthah fi Fan Al-Musiqa and was published in 1905. Arais al-Muruj, his second work, was published the next year. It was translated as Nymphs of the Valley, Spirit Brides and also as Brides of the Prairie. Many of his works were written and published in English. These include The Madman (1918), Twenty Drawings (1919), The Forerunner (1920), The Prophet (1923), Sand and Foam (1926) and The Earth Gods (1931). With a strong element of mysticism, which is influenced by Islam, Christianity, theosophy and Judaism, his works deal with spiritual love, joy and sorrow, marriage, children and death. Gibran died from tuberculosis and liver cirrhosis on 10 April 1931 in New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect condition

Since others have complained about this book I thought I'd give my account of how it arrived for me. It came this morning and there was no bent bits on the outside and I discovered that the pages were stuck together by the gold on the edges not by water damage, so to make reading easier in future I went through every page and separated them without any problems. The book was in a plastic seal so if it had touched water it wouldn't have been damaged and I think that may be why the pages got stuck together because the plastic was tight around the book.Anyway the book looks delightful a beauty to put in my bookcase and I can't wait to start reading.

Not to be missed if you like The Prophet in particular.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful edition, with some issues

M.M. · 13 December 2024

The first read through, almost all of the pages were stuck together at the corners and proved difficult at times to separate. There are also a lot of obvious grammatical / translation errors once you get into the more obscure works (I noticed none in the Prophet or in Sand & Foam, but they are plentiful in subsequent sections). Still a great collection of the works and a beautiful physical book.

The book is beautiful but was despatched by Bolo in a paper envelope which resulted in the corners being bashed and damaged. It was intended as a present but is not fit to give as a gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, with water damage pages tips

K. · 26 January 2025

Lovely book, just a shame some of the gold tipped pages are damaged, looks like it might have gotten wet at some point. However books are about it's content and that is stunning obviously.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good quality.Damaged on arrival.

L.M. · 22 September 2022

Did not like the quality of copy. Do not like that the hard end boards are bent in at the corners and the spine has been squashed in at the top from being strapped to other books. Pages not free of each other poorly cut. At £27.11 I expected a good quality printing. Now if going to return it's costing as much again with no certainty of refund. I don't like that at all and will be more careful when I order to check where item despatched from. I buy everything from Bolo as I am housebound but now will be less likely to order foreign imports as the postage is high and the quality lacking.

The media could not be loaded. Since this book arrived, and I ordered it prime, so it came pretty quickly I have not been able to put it down. For the first time I have all of this brilliant writers words put together in one book. Its a hefty tome of breathtaking words of love, life, and philosophy. This seller is great. Product has exceeded my expectations, carefully packaged, arrived on time, great value, great quality and breathtakingly impressive to look at hold in your hands. I can tell this book will hold up over time and be a family heirloom first passed onto my daughter and so on to read and enjoy. However, I failed to truly understand the brilliance of this writer’s words.
