5.0 out of 5 stars You Cannot Fail With This
This book is a must for anyone that's just looking to try and improve themself physically, in the simplest way possible.I am 43 years old, previously in good shape but all exercise and cares about my diet had disappeared over time. I must also state that I have quite bad periods of depression which also take away all desire to do anything, nevermind workout.I started this plan 4 weeks ago and the results so far have been, without wanting to sound dramatic, life changing. It is so simple to follow, no calorie counting. All food portions are determined by hand size measurements. The workouts are fully explained with photos and are very flexible if needed.Everything from my strength levels through to my mental positivity have increased in spectacular fashion. This is by far the best plan I have ever done and will be my normal routine from now on.
4.0 out of 5 stars Better than your average!
Not a bad read, well laid out and no BS which was refreshing. There's no preaching and is ideal for anyone starting through to intermediate level. Great graphics clearly show the individual exercises etc and finished off with a nice bit on nutrition and supplementation.Well worth a read
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
So I have completed this 8 week plan. Started off as an overweight dad weighing 96kg. Purchased the book and didn't look back once! Jon I upset has created something incredible. Not only is the book easy to follow but it's full of great tips to help you along each block of the plan. I lost a total of 3.8 stone and transformed my body to something I am now comfortable with and mostly happy with. Jon is on hand via social media to offer guidance, advice and encouragement along with the New Body Plan Gang. A truly remarkable plan that I would recommend to anyone of any age or ability. What an absolute god send
3.0 out of 5 stars A good start point for rank beginners
I have been working out about 4-5 times a week for about 18 months or so and initially saw a lot of weight loss and have had consistent strength and muscle gain. Weight loss has slowed a lot though and I wanted to get a programme to help me lose that last 7kg or so to get good muscle definition and the all important six pack abs. I read the reviews of this book thought I'd try it out, an 8 week intensive and prescribed programme with the guess work taken out seems ideal.Firstly, this is an exercise programme only, in terms of diet advice and planning it is very light indeed so I would advise buying another book for the diet aspect.Exercise wise it is as you would expect, a very detailed programme clearly laid out with good photographs and instructions that are almost idiot proof to follow. It specifies specific routines for each session for the full eight weeks, based on upper and lower body exercises, 2x of each per week with different exercises in different orders each time. As you progress the exercises introduce more advanced movement and inclusion of specific gym equipment. Throughout there is a focus on using body weight and free weights, in other words it is good sense stuff. All good then... well, not exactly. Where this book falls down a little is that I have found some of the sessions to be a bit imbalanced. For instance, week 1 session 1 features Lunges with dumbbells, and using say a reasonable 12.5kg in each arm (for me) these are very tough and deep with the suggested form (which is correct by the way). I found them challenging and I am reasonably fit and strong, no problem with that because that is the point right? Yet, in the same session it prescribes 3 x sets of 12 crunches with 60 second rests, which feels very inadequate compared to the lunges! I ended up doing 30+ crunches in each set to get a burn with 60 second rests. This carries on throughout the book, some exercises within the same session are challenging, like dumbbell shoulder raises, yet others are very basic and hardly stress your muscles at all to the point where I don't think they are right.Like a lot of guys who go the gym I have been working my upper body pretty hard with isolation exercises for a while (probably too much focused on upper) so I found the upper body routines in the book a bit underwhelming. I like the strategy employed of mixing things up and I am incorporating that into my sessions but the length and intensity of the upper body routines suggested in the early phases has not been right for me.However, I have found it beneficial to do far more lower body stuff than I had been doing, particularly getting away from relying on the standard leg press machine, towards more body weight and core related moves. My take on all of this is that the book is really aimed at beginners who are using very low weights for exercises. However, as a rank beginner to exercise and starting a bit overweight you'd be very hard pressed to get the body that the chap in the photos has in only 8 weeks. (Actually it would be impossible.) Getting arms like he has takes at least 6 months of hard work and the right kind of diet. This makes me suspect he had already trained regularly and hard before following this plan; OK, he was overweight at the start but it looks like he put on the weight over a well trained body in order to lose it, which is not where most people who buy the book will be starting from. After trying it out I have come off the programme a bit and I am using the lower body routines adapted for my level of fitness and strength and continuing with upper body routines I has been using before. (So not really following the book properly.)I am seeing results and I believe this change in approach will give me what I want, so for me the book has been useful, it's just that it is really aimed at beginners so buy with that in mind.
