"This book is much more than a history of Gander's Ferry Command. It is a comprehensive record lasting from the first survey to Newfoundland's retrieval of the airport from Canada. It is a masterly piece of work which, no doubt, will find its place on the bookshelves of aviation enthusiasts."
—Frank Tibbo, Gander aviation historian, author of Charlie Baker George, and member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador
"Hillier brings to life the stories of those responsible for delivering planes from North American manufacturers to war-torn Europe....Hillier does a masterful job of shining a light on the people and the achievements of this long-overlooked organization."
—Gary Hebbard, aviation writer/researcher and author of I'd Rather Be Flying: Airborne Life and Times of Ted Pearcey

It describes the creation, operation and lasting impact of this particular base. It is made more interesting because the “story” tells of many of the personalities involved, and of their particular activities. The included photographs add significantly to the narrative. Weaved into this book is some interesting history of Newfoundland. An amazing amount of information is contained within the 212 pages of “story” and the 42 pages of notes and bibliography. It is a valuable addition to the collection of books already written about Ferry Command in World War II, and I highly recommend it.
Great read.
Interesting and informative.
Important history
Interesting history considering how important the airport became on 9/11.
Great historical study , of a Royal Air Force Unit during the Second World War.
North Atlantic Crossroads is a is a great combination of historical research and a fine narrative. The story of Ferry Command is one that involves a British Colony and its roll in bringing the output of North America's aviation factories to the front lines. In the process, this story also tells of the role that Gander played in hosting the RAF Ferry Command Gander Unit . This unit helped pave the start of Trans-Atlantic air travel. An interesting and informative study, which should grace the book shelves of any one with an interest in the history of aviation and Canada ?Newfoundland's roll in it. Highly recommended.
Informative book
