5.0 out of 5 stars Must have book for any science teacher!
Secondary Science in Action, really does offer an excellent summary of education research-based pedagogy, contextualised perfectly within the subject of science. It provides clear and relevant examples of lesson delivery that are aligned current curriculum aims. I think this book is highly effective in supporting busy educators in science, helping them inspire and engage students in deeper and more meaningful learning.I have found one of its key strengths is that it focuses on integrating both substantive knowledge and disciplinary knowledge. Helping us to adapt this approach is essential for nurturing future scientists, but also for empowering all students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can be applied across disciplines. The book is a ‘go-to’ invaluable resource for any teacher at any stage of their career, looking to enhance their practice and ensure students are well-prepared not just for academic success, but for life in general. It ticks all the boxes for science teachers aiming to deliver engaging, well-rounded science education. We will be ordering this via school for all members of our department. Thank you for gifting this to me - Mahim.
3.0 out of 5 stars The right answer to the wrong question
If you live inside England's educational bubble of hardline traditionalism, this book could be for you. In this ideology, the endless trumpeting of the merits of explicit instruction and retrieval practice makes sense. But to claim this teaching meets the aims of the National Curriculum to prepare scientific thinkers for the 21st century is a stretch too far.
