Description:

23 knitting patterns for jumpers and cardigans to last a lifetime

Combining her love for the outdoors and knitting, Linka Neumann presents patterns for Scandi-style jumpers, cardigans and a headband that will keep you warm and dry, no matter how rough the weather is.

Drawing on traditional Norwegian knitting methods, these designs for thick, woolly knits are not only comfortable and cosy, but also represent an authenticity and style that has stood the test of time. Linka takes inspiration from nature and wildlife for her fresh yet timeless designs. From the Norwegian forests, snow-covered landscapes and fjords to reindeer, wolves and her beloved Husky dogs.

Many of the designs come with variations to suit all tastes, whether you prefer a jumper or a cardigan, a thick or thin garment, sewn-on arms or round yokes. The patterns include instructions for a range of sizes and for both female and male body shapes. There is also a pattern for making Linka’s signature Wilderness Sweater in children’s size.

The projects are showcased in a stunning Norwegian landscape that will make you yearn for the outdoors. And no matter how long or short your adventure, you will be cosy in your bespoke, home-knitted jumper. These knits chime with an eco-conscious, anti-fast fashion sentiment and will literally last you a lifetime of adventuring!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but not for the faint-hearted

This is a beautiful pattern book, with amazing pictures and designs and I am excited to start my first Nordic jumper. Whilst waiting for the wool to arrive, and as I have never knitted in the round, I started to read through my chosen pattern to try and understand the technique and how to read the charts etc ... five hours later, I think I have worked it out! If you are used to a pattern that tells you stitch by stitch, row by row, how to proceed then gird your loins! You have to work out how to centre the pattern depending on what size you are making and how many stitches are on/remaining on your needle, and how to decrease evenly over the rounds at various points. I love a challenge, and hope I have got it right.... time will tell. I was expecting a bit more guidance, explanation and teaching, but as she suggests in her book, you have to search online for instructional videos that explain different techniques and skills for the less experienced of us... Happy knitting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book with lovely clear pictures and history behind each pattern.

Lovely patterns. Love the history given behind each one. I’ve ordered to wool directly, which is not easy to get from UK, but I’m ready to get going. Made a couple of the smaller items already, just to get back into the way before venturing to the sweater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than a book.

I had just finished a linka pattern from her website and I had to buy the book. I can't say enough good things about it, inspiring pictures, fantastic designs, easy to follow patterns and charts and you get a seriously good outdoor garment at the end.I will be starting another project immediately.I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely quality book, great patterns worth every penny

Arrived in perfect condition, on time. Lovely patterns and a great quality hardback, good quality paper. 100% happy to give this as a gift and my friend loves it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning scenery and good designs.

A. · 8 October 2021

This would be a good choice for a knitter with a basic knowledge of colour work who wanted some more designs and ideas. Very experienced knitters might find it a little simple. Clear instructions although you do need to know the basics. Lovely photographs. Great gift for someone looking to move to the next level. Slight issue is that many of the yarns are highly specialised from limited suppliers. Check the yarn weight/gauge then look at substitutes using a website. Doesn't spoil the designs but might be a little frustrating if you're not confident in yarn substitution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resulted in my first ever sweater!

S.P. · 15 February 2022

This book helped me to knit my first ever sweater. I did the Wilderness Sweater - see photos - you start with the waist and knit up the body in the round. Then you do both arms before knitting them onto the same needles in the round. You then do the yolk and finish with the neck and joining under the arms which I did with Kitchener stitch. Weaving in the ends took a while! The pattern is brief and to the point - as a new knitter I consulted YouTube videos to help with some bits - eg how to actually join the arms to the body - I had no concept of how to do that. You also have to learn how to catch floats behind the colour work - especially the paws. I’ve started my second sweater from this book. The actual book is lovely to look at too.

Really beautiful book for knitters

L.M. · 31 October 2024

I gave this book to my daughter as a gift and she has already made two sweaters from the patterns. The patterns are gorgeous and well-written. If you are looking for warm, nordic style sweater knitting patterns, give this book a try.

Poor patterns, no explanations, no shaping, formless square pullovers

Z. · 24 June 2025

Really ridiculous book, nice pictures, and that is all.Patterns are not or badly explained, and there is no shaping, just assembled squares and rectangles. Formless pullovers. Retuning

Easy to follow

Easy to follow patterns but needs to have diagrams of the sweaters.

Fantastic patterns

A. · 1 December 2023

I am just about to start knitting my fourth sweater from this book, then I’ll knit one for my husband. I spend a great deal of time outdoors hiking, camping, snowshoeing and doing winter chores. And we have seven months of winter where I live. So I definitely wear these sweaters as they were designed to be used. I love them. The book is beautiful, inspiring, and well written and edited. The patterns are well tested and easy to follow. My only minor quibble is that the book showcases several colorways for each sweater, but only lists the color names for the main colorway. It would be nice to not have to guess on color names if I want to make a one of the alternates.UPDATE: After knitting 5 sweaters from this book, I have a few thoughts. The sweaters would fit much better and be more comfortable to wear with some short-row neck shaping (I know probably not traditional). The fit is just ok on me, but on my husband it was ridiculous. The sweater was hiked up in the back, bunched up in front of the neck, and baggy around the waist. I had to heavily modify a pattern for a great fit. I sized down 2 sizes for the waist band, adding 8 stitches to start the body and then tapering an additional increase of 12 stitches up the body. Then I also did 2 rows of short-row shaping mid-back and another 6 around the neck. Fortunately the particular pattern I chose (Føyka) was easy to modify. The fit turned out great. It makes me think about re-knitting the necks on the sweaters I made for myself. I included a photo of the neck shaping that I did.
