This is a fantastic book if you're interested in learning more about Game Theory Optimal. As some have said this book makes for heavy reading in parts. There is a lot of math and algebra in parts, which can make it slightly off putting. If like me, you have a very bad experience with math as a child this may be too much for you. However, if like me you love to learn and are happy go slow then this book is a great read.As I said above it can be a hard read, but I feel it totally necessary for the subject matter. Remember you’re getting a book about ‘poker game theory’ and with that comes advanced mathematic concepts.I feel for any budding poker player that wants to understand more of what the top-level players know and think about, then this book is a must read tbh. It is a vast book as well, there is nothing simple and quick within this book. The author goes into detail with his explanations in all the area’s. I don’t think you can read this book once and take away everything you need from it. So be prepared to have it as a guide and know there well may be a need to read it 2-3 times over the course of a year or 2.I’ve learned a great deal from this book, so believe it to have been a great investment all in all. As with anything you can google all the chapters and get the same information for free. But knowing what to google and what you need to learn is another story. So, if you’re undecided on purchasing this, but want to learn and love a challenge, then go for it. It can only help and not hinder your poker.
5.0 out of 5 stars This Book will take your game to the next level & beyond, it’s about todays game not yesterday’s.
Wow, when my poker coach Mr J Little said he had some input into this book, I just had to buy it and I did. I had to wait because I live in the U.K. but Bolo came good. The book is a massive read and although it is slightly more expensive than I’ve paid for instance Moorman, you certainly get your monies worth. The book is huge. I’ve played poker for almost 20 years now and I really put a lot of time and effort into my studies. I’m not big headed about my ability and I’m more of a hobby player now. But the information contained in the book from what I’ve read thus far, I know I’m going to improve my game no end.I read a top pro who’s read it 3 times already say, it’s the best book out there, ever! No, I am not getting anything for saying this but trust me and you can reply to this message if you think after reading it, that your game didn’t improve at all. But I know it will improve everyone’s game.Beat the rest and grab it before the masses arrive and put their own game to the test.I am amazed at the content and some of that content was literally put in just last month (July) so when he says Modern Game, he’s not kidding, it really is how the game is played today.
4.0 out of 5 stars Theory Heavy
The book is split into three sections: Elements of Theory, Preflop, Postflop. Each section varies in quality.Elements of Poker Theory is a strong section and individually is would rate 5*. It gives a good overview of GTO and Exploitative strategies as well as tools available.Preflop is the weakest section by far and I would rate 2* individually. I would expect some charts in the book but this section has an excessive amount of charts. You would be better purchasing HRC or alike and get better value here as it is difficult to learn from 50+ individual charts from a book. There are small sections of value here but overall difficult to read and little in the way of application.Postflop is strong and i would rate 4*. The authors cuts back on the charts but this is replaced by graphs which does get excessive in parts. There is a lot more into theory that can be digested by the reader in a more effective way in this section. One section I think is missing from the book is how to learn and apply the principles in the book. The author explains that he has been designing these systems for years so it would be expected the learning element as included.I view this book as comparable to a university textbook. This is not to be read as a relaxing read or a scan through. The concepts are extremely complex and to absorb the information will take upwards of a year.
5.0 out of 5 stars The most advanced modern Texas holdem book i own.
I currently own 15 poker books on Texas Holdem, all from The Little Green Book, The Poker Blueprint, and books like "Moorman's Book Of Poker". With out a shadow of a doubt this is the largest capping out on the last page "Final Word" at 479 pages Texas Holdem Book i own, but it's not just long, it's in depth, Modern, Clear to understand and the most advanced book i own. The math is AMAZING!!! and crystal clear, with all the colored pie charts and graphs coupled with step by step walk throughs of all the math you NEED to know, laced throughout this book, almost on every page!. i believe there is nothing advanced outside this book you'll need to know, every position, every play style, every form of math every technique is perfected in this book, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK BECAUSE YOU WANT IT ! buy this book because you WILL need this book at some point if you ever desire to take your advanced Texas Holdem skills far beyond the next level.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beginner friendly and very useful
Read this as my first poker theory book. It's really easy to understand as a beginner and the concepts are all useful and can be applied right away
5.0 out of 5 stars Really good introduction to advanced poker theory
Title says it, well written and is helping me to improve my game on the felt. Already seeing the results!
5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Book
It's just a great book and doesn't require previous knowledge. Explains everything easily but not condescendingly. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in understanding poker properly
4.0 out of 5 stars Really heavy book
This is a good book the expert in poker but is really really heavy to read and it will take you a lot of time!If you have the motivation and patience for it then is highlly recommended
Great Book - could be so much better
I agree with most reviewers that this book is a step ahead of all of the other No Limit Holdem books out there. And like many readers, I agree that it will require several readings to be able to get everything out of this book.My complaint is that careful reading points out many places where the book is sloppy in it's construction. As discussion gets to play on the flop and turn, Acevedo presents diagrams showing strategies for types of boards. Usually with raise/call/fold ratios for each of ten holdings. In about 80% of these diagrams, only five of the strategies are labeled. So, once you take a close look, the diagram doesn't support you. There are a couple of errors in equations, and his effort to describe odds and percentages is a real hash. Most people coming at this book will probably already understand that stuff and just gloss over his muddied explanation. The real gold in this book is the GTO theory and it is generally done well. (Why I'm keeping my 5-star rating). There is still room for more books on this topic. There are times where Acevedo seems to distance himself from some of the strategies ("the solver likes to do ..."). The next iteration of a book like this will help the reader understand why the solver made some of its choices. Finally, this book isn't for the casual player. It's a book for the kind of player that spends time away from the table studying the game and reflecting on their own play.
