About the Author

Born in 1956, Alice Maher was awarded a Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Ulster and a Fulbright Scholarship to San Francisco Art Institute. Her work can be seen in significant international collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Fogg Museum; the British Museum; the Irish Museum of Modern Art; the Hammond Museum, and the Pompidou Centre. She lives and works in Ireland.

Foreword by Whitney Chadwick, art historian specialising in surrealism, contemporary art and gender issues. She is the author of the widely acclaimed study Women, Art and Society.

This collection of artist Alice Maher's sketchbooks is a tribute to her creativity and career. Cleverly rendered - the sketches are on 'sketchpad-style' paper while the pictures of her finished art are on higher quality glossy paper - it's an absolute must for art lovers, and particularly art school graduates, all of whom seem to be obsessed with her. A beautiful piece of "practical art" to have in the home.

Love alice Mahers work!!! This is a very interesting look at her Sketchbooks of her thoughts and inspirations over the last 20 years. A real look inside the private mind of the artist. Bought it for a friend, then bought one for myself
