Arrived on time from the seller.What a fabulous city. It was 49 years between my first and second visits, and this guide was an essential companion for me to rediscover long lingering memories of a place I always wanted to return to.The memories are more vivid for having this guide a s reference point.

I wanted something that would fit in my handbag. This was a useful reminder of things to see in Florence, nicely presented and a good size!

The guide is set out well and has a reasonable level of information, just as a guide should do, and lots of largely unnecessary pictures that take up almost half the book that could have been used for more information! I suspect that in attempting to make it fit in a pocket-sized version they have cut much of what is useful in a guide for a stay of more than a couple of days. And why so many photos of things that you are hopefully going to see anyway? So, Florence in a nutshell might be a better description. Rough Guides used to be very detailed (although sometimes could lead you into awkward situations if you were not fluent in the local language!). Strangely for somewhere visited by so many, there doesn't seem to be a detailed guide to Florence - there are guides with Tuscany included but not Florence alone. Guides available in Florence in English from bookshops seem to be better. The map in the back is useful but maps available from the tourist office are just as good. In conclusion I was disappointed.
