5.0 out of 5 stars inspiration
This book is for you, if you feel that you are new to disability issues and unsure how to begin your fight against ableism, it breaks down how ableism effects disabled people, and the rest of society, in a clear and simple manner. It explores how ableism intersects and compounds the other isms. The author shows you your ableism and then takes your hand, giving you ways that you can fight your prejudices and become a active actor in the fight for disability justice. An exploration of ableism and how we can fight it, this book explores; the history; of ableism, those people who have fought against it, and gives clear instructions for those who wish to continue the fight. This book is a discussion of disability, and ableism, in all their intersectional complexity. It is a clear and concise, well written manifesto. It makes a brilliant guide to creating a better world
5.0 out of 5 stars The most important book I have read all year
Tiffany Yu’s perspective on making an ableist world less ableist and therefore more equitable for all is simply fabulous.Everybody needs to read The Anti-Ableist Manifesto and implement as much as possible, not just to make society more inclusive for disabled people, but to make the world a better place for all.Intersectionality is vital, and as Yu states, adaptations aimed at increasing access for disabled people kitten benefits everyone.“nothing about us, without us” is a fantastic quote, thank you for introducing me to this.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for the disabled community, allies and eveyone!
Excellent book that breaks down all the different aspects of systemic ableism and prejudice against the disabled community. Covers the barriers disabled people face, and offers solutions for tackling and, even better, dismantling them. It’s a must-read for everyone who cares about the proper inclusion of a quarter of the world’s population. As critical a read as Ibram X Kendi’s ‘How to be an anti-racist’
5.0 out of 5 stars Read The Anti-Ableism Manifesto!
Thank you to Tiffany Yu for writing this manifesto. She explains with clarity how disabled people are discriminated against. She deconstructs ableism & shows how we can all be good allies & why it’s necessary to counter ableism. As a disabled person who also lives with a cancer diagnosis, Tiffany gave me some fresh perspectives & I’ll be implementing these in my own practice.
5.0 out of 5 stars An incredibly needed and important book
We are all "pre-disabled". This book is an incredibly important read for anyone of any ability to look at the world through a different lens. If there's one important book you read this year, it's this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read book on Disability
A must read book on Disability. Everyone should read it especially the ones who are involved or want to be involved in Disability advocacy. The book is thoroughly researched covering key topics in the format of Me, We, Us what individuals can do personally, what we can do together as a community and what societal action we can take to be anti-ableist. Tiffany's mission of making the world better shines through in the book. It's interspersed with all the knowledge she gained in doing amazing things she has done in this space, the communities she built, the changes to the local community she lives in etc. It has contributions from a wide range of disability advocates from all over the world. It's intersectional acknowledging the impact of race, class and other societal factors on the lives of disabled folks. It also acknowledges the roles of capitalism in all of this. Even though some of the context it's based in is American, it is very relevant to the UK society, especially in the light of increasing attacks on the disabled in the community.
5.0 out of 5 stars A clear and comprehensive guide to understanding Disability and Ableism.
I have just finished The Anti-Ableist Manifesto audiobook written and read by Tiffany Yu, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a clear and comprehensive guide to understanding Disability and Ableism. The book breaks down why accessibility isn’t just about ticking boxes but about shifting attitudes, policies, and everyday actions to create a society where disabled people are valued and expected. It confirmed and expanded my knowledge and is packed with a variety of perspectives, insights and practical steps for making access and inclusion a core part of our day-to-day advocacy. I loved the reflection questions at the end of each chapter.Whether you are new to the subjects in this book or looking to expand and confirm your knowledge, this book is a must-read.
A must-have for everybody
This is an absolute must-have for any disability advocate, a member of the disabled community and anyone, really, even if they don't have any direct link to the disabled community. An easy-to-read guide to dismantle ableism and prejudices or wrong opinions regarding disabled people and disabled lives.I'm so thankful that Tiffany Yu wrote this book, I hope it finds more people and more shelves to be put on.
Essential reading for every aspiring ally
As someone deeply interested in equity and building inclusive environments, The Anti-Ableist Manifesto by Tiffany Yu was the allyship playbook I knew I needed. Tiffany's voice—smart and warm—guides you through complex topics with the ease of a trusted friend and the clarity of a sharp advocate. What stood out most to me was how tangible she makes allyship. She doesn’t just unpack ableism—she gives you the tools to unlearn it. Her insights into inclusive hiring practices and accessibility in the workplace should be required reading for every business leader, and her personal stories make those tools stick.
Thought provoking, inspiring, eye opening!
This is the most inspiring book I have read in many years! As a disabled person myself I found this book very informative to understand what other disabled people go through, to learn how to spot and remediate ableism, but most importantly to feel hope! Hope that through our actions and deliberate practice we can build a better world for everyone!
