5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling ride through history and an intro to an amazing island

M.C.P. · 17 July 2025

Although a book written for young people I was hooked from the first page as an adult. So many relatable characters no matter your age and a heart wrenching and inspiring story through the unknown island to myself. I couldn’t put the book down and would recommend to anyone who enjoys adventure, history and the British isles.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this with my daughter and we couldn’t put it down. Having the lead character as a child really helped her relate to the story. It has prompted her to ask more and more around the history of the conflict and the German occupations throughout Europe. The Artwork brings the book to life and has inspired us both to dig further into this fascinating subject of WW 2.Fantastic read and would highly recommend to read with a child or even on your own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading

This is a book for children but as an adult with an interest in WW2 history I was drawn straight into the story and thoroughly enjoyed it . There were fascinating details about Jersey under occupation , not avoiding some difficult events , little hints at mysteries to be revealed, and sensitive explorations of timeless issues that can effect any family trying to hold together under pressure . I would recommend this as a book for families and schools to explore together .

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Can't wait for the next one!

My son (10) read this book and said "I really enjoyed it. It was one of the best books I have ever read! I loved every second of reading it to my guinea pigs and was disappointed when it came to an end. I hope there is going to be another one."

Fun and insightful, historic and exciting

A fast moving yarn, had me moving across the Jersey landscape with the same nerves and excitement as our unlikely hero. Great story played out on a well researched blanket of history, melding the two into a highly enjoyable read.
